Summary
Walden is a timeless reflection on simplicity, nature, and individual freedom. Written by Henry David Thoreau after two years of living in a cabin by Walden Pond, the book invites readers to consider what it means to live deliberately — with purpose and in harmony with the natural world.

Blending memoir, philosophy, and keen observations of daily life, Walden challenges materialism and conformity, encouraging the reader to seek a deeper, more authentic existence. It remains one of the most influential works in American literature and a cornerstone of environmental thought.
Reviews
Profile Avatar Jakob T. Jul 2025

This book is in part very practical, considering the price of building a small cabin in the 1840s New England or how the depth of a pond can be calculated from its shape, in part it is pure poetry, but mostly, it is an ode to nature close at hand and to living according omto ones own mind. This means that it is not the easiest book to narrate. I think Mr Foster does a good job, even if he does miss some of the pauses needed to make the very long sentences easily comprehensible. In all, I can recommend this book.
