Summary
Amos Decker—the FBI consultant with a perfect memory—returns to solve a gruesome murder in a booming North Dakota oil town in the newest thriller in David Baldacci's #1 New York Times bestselling Memory Man series.

When Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are called to London, North Dakota, they instantly sense that the thriving fracking town is ripe for trouble. The promise of a second gold rush has attracted an onslaught of newcomers all hoping for a windfall, and the community is growing faster than houses can be built. The sudden boom has also brought a slew of problems with it, including drugs, property crimes, prostitution—and now murder.

Decker and Jamison are ordered to investigate the death of a young woman named Irene Cramer, whose body was expertly autopsied and then dumped in the open—which is only the beginning of the oddities surrounding the case. As Decker and Jamison dig into Irene's life, they are shocked to discover that the woman who walked the streets by night as a prostitute was a teacher for a local religious sect by day—a sect operating on land once owned by a mysterious government facility that looms over the entire community.

London is a town replete with ruthless business owners, shady government officials, and religious outsiders, all determined to keep their secrets from coming out. When other murders occur, Decker will need all of his extraordinary memory and detective skills, and the assistance of a surprising ally, to root out a killer and the forces behind Cramer's death . . . before the boom town explodes.

Very good book! The narration is on point once again and the addition of new characters is also a nice touch. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was some times there are too many moving parts. It's hard to track all of them and then find out they have little to do with the outcome. Other than, this story was really interesting from beginning to end!

Narration was on point like always. The only reason for the 4 star was that it was super unrealistic how many times Decker got saved at the last second. There were also so many moving parts that were irrelevant it made it a little tough to keep up with.

I am not sure how David Baldacci finds his characters but they are each unique. He kept the book moving. It seemed that Amos Dexter and Alex Jameson stumbled on two other cases. while trying to solve a murder. But to my surprise, David brought in another character from another story. Yes, that character was/is one of my favorites. I was so pleased I started to clap. Luckily I was on a straight away. I David has more Amos and Alex stories in the future.

Agree with other reviews. Great book. I usually lose interest after 3 book in series this one keeps getting better and better. The addition of characters and the references to characters in previous books adds color and flavor. The narrators very good.

Excellent story. Couldn’t wait to continue listening & the narrators helped to keep the many characters as separate people. I learned a lot about topics I had no knowledge about-was a great addition to the book.

I am a Baldacci fan, and this book did not disappoint! Fast-moving, with well-developed characters, a fascinating story, and a somewhat surprising ending! Amos Decker is a character I like to follow...I wish I could say that I can identify with him, but we are pretty much opposites! I can’t wait to read another Baldacci book!!

Personally I am not overly fond of political or "military-type" stories, and I had forgotten that Baldacci's books tend to include that subject-matter, but it was still a good book ... I really like how the Amos Decker character/personality is developing, I liked the details in this book about Amos' family (sisters, brothers-in-law) and I like the Amos and Alex relationship, as well as the previous characters who have made appearances in the Amos Decker stories, and can make brief "reappearances."
