Walter and Lily: Autism & Unexpected Friendship

Extremely excited to start his new school, Walter is both eager and nervous to make new friends when he meets Lily for the first time. Things get off to a sticky start because of Lily’s disabilities, so it’s hard for him to connect with her. But when Walter realizes that she’s not having fun like everyone else, he makes it his personal mission to become Lily’s number one friend. 

In Walter and Lily: Unexpected Friendship and Autism, children learn firsthand about the power of friendship. As Walter learns more about Lily’s condition and circumstances, the book explores values such as acceptance, understanding, and kindness. Ultimately, Walter learns what makes Lily different but also how to incorporate her into activities with everyone else.

As Walter befriends Lily to help her get used to their new school, we’re able to realize that one good friend can make the world a better place. But Walter is curious to learn more. Lily may be disabled, but she is not much different than him. Walter plans a special surprise for Lily. Can he show his other friends how special Lily is?
