Summary
H. G. Wells wrote The War of the Worlds in 1898, when there was much speculation about life on the planet Mars. The book is considered to be one of the first science fiction novels. In the story, an English gentleman narrates the events of a violent and fast paced Martian invasion.

This book is worth listening to for the sake if experiencing the same horror that the main character and his brother experience while the invasion is taking place. The change in narrators was distracting at times but at least they all had consistently good audio. Worth listening to at least once in your life.

The narrators were inconsistent which made me focus on them at times rather then the story. For example, some of the narrators went super fast, so I had to slow it down, and then another who went super slow (I had to speed it up.) also, I was especially distracted or off put when they stuttered or paused.

Wells predicted lasers, flying and gas warfare. Not too shabby. His description of the effect of the Martian's superior power on humankind is quite well done. I found the ending very satisfactory.
