Summary
From #1 bestselling author Lisa Scottoline comes a pulse-pounding new novel.

Your family has been attacked, never again to be the same.
Now you have to choose between law…and justice.

Jason Bennett is a suburban dad who owns a court-reporting business, but one night, his life takes a horrific turn. He is driving his family home after his daughter’s field hockey game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever.

Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization—and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs.

The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.

Sometimes justice is a one-man show.

Normally I love Lisa Scottoline’s books. But I found this one difficult to get into. It drug at the beginning and then went into a wild unbelievable ride with twists and turns involving mob type characters, double agents working for the federal government and the mob, and a sole fbi good agent with the main character outshining all the experienced federal employees and the mob. In short, I felt it was a bit juvenile. Not a big fan of this book. I think the author can and has done better.

A good yarn. Sometimes pretty unbelievable and occasionally an eye roller how things turn out, but enough twists and turns to keep you interested

Should be made into a movie…has it all; family, love, suspense, violence and justice.

Great listen. Not a book you can just blindly listen. You need to hear every word to predict the next move.

What happened to the Bennetts....what happened to the author!!!?? The narrator did a fine job, but his delivery was often melodramatic, which made the cheesy plot, hokey writing, and lame dialogue even worse. I am a fan of the author's early legal thrillers, but this was a total miss for me. I expected much better. The story is completely ridiculous and farfetched, but utterly predictable at the same time. None of the main characters were sympathetic. The wife and son were whiny, selfish, and insufferable. The everyday Joe husband/father going rogue to fight drug lords and mobsters was laughably bad. Also, the main character's inner musings were full of repetitive, trite cliches. It felt like lazy writing to me. Some good editing could cut hours from this listen.
