Unabridged Audiobook
Highly recommended for anyone new to or familiar with Tolkien's Middle-earth writings. Accessible, fun, and informative.
This is a must-read (or listen to) book whether you are new to Middle-earth or an experienced reader who wants to expand your library and needs advice on where to turn next. I read the book first, but I really prefer this audiobook because it is narrated by one of the authors who really expresses the intent behind each idea - not to mention does some fantastic character work along the way. The book grew out of a podcast, so this is a natural extension. The conversational tone of the written word translates well to audiobook format. Buy both - that way you'll have the visuals to refer to in the book, but you can enjoy listening to the text. Just be advised that it may leave you laughing (or occasionally singing along to old rock songs), so if you listen on your commute get ready for some funny looks from other drivers! I'm looking forward to the sequel - there is so much more to explore!
