Unabridged Audiobook
I thought the book was decent. I thought Grisham could have created more suspense if other sub plots were explored. I thought the ending felt a little abrupt. All in all, a decent listen.
Grisham is always a great story teller... this book is no different... Michael Beck is the absolute best narrator I've heard. This story has a nice twist at the end. As with a lot of books, even if you guess the outcome the way Grisham gets you there is what makes his novels so great.
My favorite Author. True Grisham! My favorite Narrator.
Meh. Way too much of Simon’s inner dialogue, repetitive.
One of his best!
Great story. Ending was a little too convenient.
Enjoyed this book very much. An eye opening saga of the judicial system that can ruin an innocent life. Just can't beat John Grisham!
As avid Grisham reader I was disappointed. The book was incredibly slow
Beck does his usual great job with Grisham legal drama. I thought this was a wholly different type of Grisham book albeit still a legal thriller. Was very entertained by it. Kudos to Mr Grisham and Mr Beck. Enjoy!
Just ok. Long drawn out story.
I liked this novel. It was different for a Grisham story in that it involved a lengthy setting up of a murder, but this part was interesting because the reader/listener was always in doubt as to whether the truth was being told or not - there was also some nice humour there, too. I thought that the weaker part was the last part of the plot as more could have been done with it, as a previous reviewer said. The court scenes were interesting. I would recommend this book but don't think that it is among Grisham's best. The narrator was perfect.
Very good. I could not stop listening as the reader I see pulled into the mystery of justice.
Great story, good plot twist at the end.
I wasn’t crazy about the story line. The narrator had an annoying voice. The woman’s voice was fine.
A captivating novel with real depth in its writing, even while centering on a main character who is questionable and flawed in a few ways. Despite dealing with a somewhat seedy figure who is wrongly accused, the story never drifts into vulgarity. Instead, it remains smart, tasteful, and compelling. It’s classic Grisham...catchy, thrilling, and full of intrigue, with moments that are funny, interesting, and completely absorbing. After reading a few disappointing novels by other authors, this one really hit home. It was refreshing to read something genuinely good...something that makes your mind work like a puzzle while enjoying the atmosphere of the story. The narration was incredible, too; it honestly felt like watching a movie.
Great narrator for this southern book. Very enjoyable listen
Good
Good entertaining read. Not too much swearing.
Entertaining for a car ride but a bit drawn out. Slow going in some parts.
Great listen! Grisham is one of my favorite authors and he did not disappoint with this novel. Also the narration was top notch.
Entertaining story with a twist. The narrator was okay
I felt like it started out strong but by the time the trial began it was long and drawn out and I started to lose interest
Typical Grisham....full of twists and turns. Beautifully written. The narrator was exceptional and brought the pages to life.
Enjoyable listen. The main character's choices were painful to listen to at times and other character were sometimes one dimensional or perplexing. Otherwise a reasonably good tale. Narrator could be overly forceful in speech but generally fit the story
I enjoyed the book but it was only pretty good not great. I found it semi slow and the characters didn’t have the loveability that other Grisham books have had. 3.5 ⭐️
I loved it. It kept me engaged from beginning to the end.
Very repetitive told the same story 3 times
It took awhile to get going but I enjoyed it. The plot is a bit of a departure for Grisham. I think he needs to expand on the whodunit formula.
Fabulous story, love the narration
I always love this narrator. I think he mirrors my impressions of John Grisham when I see him interviewed. His books are always entertaining which is its purpose.
John Grisham never disappoints! I was hooked from the first chapter.
Very interesting book, really kept me wanting to know what was next.
Perhaps his best book yet. Overwhelming moral failure with severe judgment followed by redemption. Would have been nice to get a peek at what’s next.
A tight, gripping legal thriller with classic Grisham energy. The plot moves fast, the tension never slips, and the widow at the center keeps you guessing the whole way through. Smart, addictive, and impossible to put down.
If you don’t see it with your own eyes, you can’t truly vote for a conviction.
I very much enjoyed this book!
Excellently written and narratored.
Satisfying.
This was so good!!! I could not walk away until I was finished with it. Michael Beck, I wish he could read all of my books, he is the best narrator ever. I had not read a Grisham novel for probably 10 years, or more, and this has brought me back to him. I'm already off to another. Great story!
Grisham at his finest. Great job by the narrator also.
This was pretty slow and boring plot and I wouldn’t waste my time again.
For me, the character development of his Eleanor Barnett went on just too long. I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of the book and the legal wrangling much more, as it was classic Grisham. I would have liked for him to delve into the aftermath of his acquittal, like how embarassed the DA was, the effect on his children (and Paula, for that matter). So many of his friends and fellow townspeople abandoned him, it would be interesting to see where that dynamic developed. Michael Beck is my second favorite narrator, after Jim Dale. James Marsters (Harry Dresden) is in there too.
This is my first time reading a book by John Grisham and I really appreciated the details of each character and the build up. worth the read/listen! The narrator did a great job, nice pace, and was never overly dramatic!
Interesting story until the end.
wonderfully read.
Another great story from John Grisham. As always, Grisham takes the reader through a legal mess involving ethics, financial conflicts of interest, undue influence, all involving an elderly woman’s estate.
Not a page turner. Disappointed, especially in the ending.
Another excellent Grisham story
I did enjoy the story although some parts did drag on. But really good book.
Wish it had gone into an epilogue. Loved it. Kept me in a flood of emotions: anxious, angry, snarky, happy, frustrated, and much more.
Thank you, Mr. Grisham, for another riveting page turner!! Maybe a sequel to see what happens next to Latch??
I thought some parts of the story were repetitive. Sometimes it took a long time to get a point across. However, enjoyed listening to this book and have always appreciated the author’s books in the past
Splendid performance of an excellent story
