Summary
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! • A whimsical and heartwarming novel about a witch who has a second chance to get her magical powers—and her life—back on track, from the national bestselling author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.

Sera Swan used to be one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her magic, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her Guild. Now she (slightly reluctantly and just a bit grumpily) helps Jasmine run an enchanted inn in Lancashire, where she deals with her quirky guests' shenanigans, tries to keep said talking fox in check, and longs for the future that seems lost to her. But then she finds out about an old spell that could hold the key to restoring her power…

Enter Luke Larsen, handsome and icy magical historian, who arrives on a dark winter evening and just might know how to unlock the spell’s secrets. Luke has absolutely no interest in getting involved in the madcap goings-on of the inn and is definitely not about to let a certain bewitching innkeeper past his walls, so no one is more surprised than he is when he agrees to help Sera with her spell. Worse, he might actually be thawing.

Running an inn, reclaiming lost magic, and staying one step ahead of the watchful Guild is a lot for anyone, but Sera Swan is about to discover that she doesn’t have to do it alone...and that the weird, wonderful family she’s made might be the best magic of all.

.I wanted to like this so bad, because I liked her first book so much. But this just was not it for me. I did like the grumpy x grumpy relationship between Sera and Luke, but I found Sera to be a little tiresome most of the time. The journey they take to find the ingredients for the spell work was definitely different than what we've seen because of the fact that they do not have to leave the inn at all, and instead they need to interpret the ingredients in a way that pertains to Sera nd her life. As much as the ensemble cast of characters was fun, the only ones that I truly cared about were Jasmine, the great aunt, and Sir Nicholas, who enjoys dressing up as a knight and jousting at the renaissance fair. In fact, honestly, I could have gone with a whole book about nicholas and been the happiest person alive because I would literally kill for him. Also I love Roo-Roo, the resident dead rooster and past pet to Jasmine. There were so many elements in this that came together that should have led to something I loved, but, that being said, I will admit that I found the execution to be predictable and boring, I found I did not like either main character, and I thought the plot itself was pretty weak. Also, the ending was wrong on so many levels, and while I agree with some things that happened, it felt like a huge letdown for something that had a huge buildup. I don't know if this just wasn't for me or if it was not a great book in general, but I do think there is an audience for this. So I would recommend it to people who like cozy fantasies, who like mental health representation and watching the main character overcome their own mental health issues, and who like just a dash of romance. Though I will say there is one spicy scene in this book, and as much as I like spice, I don't think it necessarily fit the vibe of this book, so, fair warning. Actual Rating: 2.5 stars

To book is magical , in every sense. Family and what we do and sacrifice for the ones we love is at the forefront; add laughter, love and a villain and you have the makings of a great memorable tale. The narrator, s voice is buttery, calm and soothing, she is the perfect complement to the story.
