Unabridged Audiobook
Pretty good. I figured out who the murderer had to be about 15% into the book, but the author left enough doubt to keep things interesting. The overall impression was a bit sparse in terms of character development and plot, but the book has good bones. The authors writing style isn’t richly overripe and florid and yet compellingly luscious as Raymond Chandler’s or Dashiell Hammet’s and yet something about the main character’s dead pan delivery evokes a wafting scent of their style throughout the book, like the lingering trace of a classy dame’s perfume. The solid writing was accompanied by solid narration. I’m looking forward to the next book by this author.
The plot was ok. The main character was annoying. And the final denouement was boring. It recap every single clue that they unearthed and started with the most likely, and of course, ended with the least likely but real murderer. I guessed early on who had done the deed. The why was a surprise.
