The literature of this novella is wonderful! The imagery, motifs, character foiling, and symbolism- all flawless, but the over-arching theme of anti-colonialism turns me off. Conrad turns the English colonization of the Congo into something evil, destructive, and deceiving. He sees the men at the forefront of colonization as men of false character and ultimately despicable hearts. I don't see colonization as something that hindered, but that helped to flourish. It wasn't something evil - sorry Conrad... you lost me.
