Rien Fertel is a Louisiana-based writer and historian whose work has appeared in Oxford American, Garden & Gun, Southern Living, Spirit, Saveur, and many other publications. The holder of a PhD in history, he is currently a visiting professor at Bard Early College New Orleans and a part-time professor at Tulane University.
