NICHOLAS PYENSON is the curator of fossil marine mammals at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. His writing and discoveries frequently appear on BBC, NPR, CBC, ABC Evening News, NBC, The Economist, Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Popular Mechanics, Discover, and Smithsonian Magazine. A National Geographic Explorer, he has done scientific fieldwork on every continent and lead over a dozen scientific expeditions during the last decade. Pyenson is at work on a forthcoming national PBS series, in development, called Lineage, which will focus exclusively on the evolution of whales and draw heavily from Pyenson's research and experiences.
