Madeline Ostrander is a science journalist and writer and the former senior editor of YES! Magazine. Her work has appeared in the NewYorker.com, The Nation, Sierra Magazine, PBS NOVA Next, Al Jazeera, and numerous other outlets. She's received grants, fellowships, and residencies from the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism, the Fund for Investigative Journalism, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation science books program, the Jack Straw Cultural Center, the Mesa Refuge, Hedgebrook, and Edith Cowan University in Australia. She holds a master's degree in environmental science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She lives in Seattle, where she has taught nonfiction at the Hugo House and other venues.
