Holling Clancy Holling (1900-1973) graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1923 and worked in anthropology at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. He spent many years dedicating his time to making books for children, and much of the material he used was known to him firsthand. He is best known for his book Paddle-to-the-Sea, which was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1942 and won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1962.
