Written By: Liane Moriarty

Narrated By: Caroline Lee

Date: July 2014

Duration: 15 hours 56 minutes

From the author of Nine Perfect Strangers, Truly Madly Guilty, and The Husband’s Secret comes the #1 New York Times bestselling novel about the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

A murder...A tragic accident...Or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead.

Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the little lies that can turn lethal.

Love this book! I watched the first episode of the TV series on HBO and knew I wanted to listen to the audiobook before watching the rest of the series! It didn’t disappoint!

Like all of the books by this author that I have read before this book starts out a little slow while we are getting introduced to the characters. However, after that the book gets really good as I was anticipating what comes next. All along I kept wanting to know “who dunit”. As always there were great characters and the narrator made them come to life so well.

Great book! Took me a bit in the beginning to sort out who was who, but I was sucked into the story line and the characters and couldn't stop listening. The narrator was great, and it kept me guessing. Very entertaining.

Even though it is tough to follow with all of the flashbacks, it is a good story. Not done watching the serial, but the book was a much better story so far.

I happened across the television series and completely enjoyed it! St the time, a second season was not certain. So I purchased the book. The book was okay and I was happy with the ending, which is all I wanted to know. Now that there will be a season 2, I am curious how closely they will follow the book.

  • Karen R.

One of my very favorite audio books. I just finished listening for my third time. I LOVE how Liane Moriarty describes the secret thoughts we all have or have known those around us to have. And I just love how Caroline Lee gives such accurate voice to those thoughts. One of the several threads in this book is the subject of domestic violence and the many sick tendrils of affect it has on the partners, children, families, friends and social circles of those nearby. NOW I want to watch the series.

Excellent book. The narrator did a wonderful job with all the voices. It was a captivating subject. I recommend it.

  • Stephanie W.

story held my attention. Narrator was hard to understand sometimes and took sometime to get used to.

  • Sonya K.

I liked the story a lot. Probably would have liked it even more if I was a mother.

  • Marianne R.

This was my first listen. It took me a little to get used to the narrating but I eventually did. I loved the story and the characters. Kept me wanting more.

  • Jessie H.

Great listen! The narrator does an amazing job giving life to each character.

  • Angi M.

Saw the series on HBO so had to read book or listen in this case. The change in location from series through me because of narrator’s accent. I got used to it and very much enjoyed the book. Can’t wait for season 2.

  • Donna H.

Enjoyed this book very much, Narrator was excellent, Many twists and turns

  • Hajnalka S.

It is to confusing, not my style

  • Elisabetta W.

The story became interesting only in mid book. You have to hang in there through the first part that I found quite boring, hence the 3 stars. This is not my genre, however I must admit that the second part kept me hooked, probably because all of the pieces starting to fall in place...So, it's a good reading if you can endure the first uninteresting and fragmented 100 pages or so. The narrator was OK. British accent a bit annoying, but fun nevertheless

  • Angela P.

Great book! Fabulous narrator! Can't wait to see the series now.

  • E O.

Tremendous story! Absolutely loved it. The narrator did a lovely job adding small subtleties to each voice which really brought the characters to life. I would absolutely recommend this to book and narrator to others.

  • Melyssa S.

Such a GOOD book! It makes you want to keep listening and I love all the different point of views

  • Karri W

I love this book!! I was terribly sad when it ended. As with any book set in a foreign country, you just can't beat a narrated version! Wouldn't have been as fun in my own head. Now to watch the tv series... Although, I have never ever liked a movie/show better than the book.

  • Heather W

Excellent book. One of Moriarty’s best yet. The characters are so engaging and the story keeps you guessing up to the end.

  • Joseph G

Great book. I loved the show on HBO so I had to listen to the book. I highly recommend this book in general or if you've watched the show on HBO.

  • Katie C

I've put off reading this novel but finally decided to read it before HBO releases the show. The kindergarten politics in the novel annoyed me and I knew it would which is the reason I put it off. I read The Husband's Secret from Liane Moriarty and I enjoyed that one more. I did enjoy the characters. They were complex and the way they handled their problems felt very real. I also really liked how the author handled some of the more controversial topics. I guessed one of the bigger plot twists right from the beginning. To me it just seemed really obvious. Overall, I was entertained by the story

  • Robin R

Awesome book! Fabulous storytelling. I binged it and finished in a couple of days. Now, I’m sad it’s over.

  • Anna G

Love love love this book! So many unexpected twists and turns. Highly recommend as I do all Liane Moriarty books.

  • Carmel S

A sparkling and wonderfully engaging examination of upper-class doings in an exclusive Australian beach town that sounds very similar to the U.S. version with its blond bobs, mothers who brunch, soccer dads and untrustworthy nannies. The mystery will keep you guessing and you'll adore the main characters. I havent seen the HBO version so I can't compare it to that. This is a rollicking read perfectly narrated by an outstanding reader.

  • Deborah M

I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the narrator’s style. I looked forward to driving while listening to this book—sorry it’s done.

  • Amanda A

Great book! Good narration. Easy listen for a long car ride

  • Leeann D

Good book and narrator. I travel for work and always appreciate a book that keeps me entertained on the road!

  • tanya l

This book kept me enthralled from the first page. All of the characters have stories that are in depth and you feel like you know each one of them. I will remember this book for a long time.

  • Tori C

The book was slow at some parts but overall good, especially at the end. I was NOT a fan of the narrator.

  • Jessica B

The more the book goes on the better it got I really enjoyed it and glad I stuck it out I was bored at first but very good book wonder if the show is just as good

  • Robyn T

It started a little slow but then I really got into it. I watched the show also on HBO. It was good too!

  • Diana H

It's a fun summer ready with suspense and a few unexpected turns. Love the narration and cheeky humor. Listened on a 12 hour drive and didn't want to stop!

  • Donna B

Love listening to this narrator - speaks a little too fast sometimes, but overall I think she does a very fine job.

  • Danielle V

Loved the show and I've just started the book. I can't stand the accent of the reader though. She is not doing a good job at all. I probably won't continue.

  • Stephanie H

Overall the book was good! It was a little slow moving at first. Too many characters introduced within the first few minutes. But it all fell together after about 20 minutes. It kept my interest but didn't get exciting until the end when the plot thickens. I'm happy I listened!

  • Samantha P

A story full of comedy, secrets and realities. I appreciate the way the book dives into the lies we tell and the secrets we keep in an effort to protect ourselves and the ones we love.

  • Anahi P

Very lovely, lots of suspense, drama, romance, mystery.... I just fancy this book

  • Trisha W

  • Katrina S

Love this book! At first I wasn't too crazy about the readers heavy accent but it grew on me. I looked forward to listening to my book every day. Lots of humor, twist and turns with the story line. Enjoyed how each character was described in detail. Very nice read.

  • Pamela Distefano

One of the worst books ever You won't learn one thing about life in this book except how to be miserable. Sickening

  • Stephani Griggs

Amazing book! The whole thing had me engaged and not letting my mind wander off. Loved the ending! I had to stop the book just so I could gather myself. I would highly recommend!

  • Barbara Brigham

    Good book.

  • ER nurse

Kept my attention throughout. Can't wait for it to come out on TV!

  • Michele Yogerst

Great book. Lots of surprises. Tough subject matter but made funny at times. Very clever writing. Only negative was although the narrator was a good speaker, she didn't match the characters. Her kids voices were so annoying and she sounded like an old lady.

  • shalini athawale

    Its good book!!

  • Melanie Sanders

What a good book! I liked the way the author told the story but keeping all the names straight was difficult. the Australian accent was a bit off-putting but you got used to it. I wanted to read this book before I saw the HBO adaptation. I would recommend this book!

  • Allyson Feltenz

This was my first book through this app and I must say I enjoyed the experience. Liane Moriarty did an amazing job writing each character out in such detail. Normally this book of this size would have taken me such a long time to read 1) I'm not a big reader to begin with, 2) I lose interest quickly and 3) I'm not normally attracted to this kind of book. This book took me somewhere different and a constant page turner for sure.

  • kimberly SCoggins

I really enjoyed this book. The author did an amazing job of bring these characters to life. I found it very interesting and the rang of emotions were great. Madelyn reminded me of myself. I would highly recommend this book.

  • Doreen Berarducci

Madeline could be my best friend, what a great, real character! As for the other characters, I found myself not so sympathetic with Jane and Celeste. Their story dragged out for too long. I figured out the ending in advance, one small part was a surprise. The narrative at times made me wince. I didn't enjoy when the narrator needed to sound angry or super excited, she ended up sounding screechy. The story wasn't what I expected but it held my attention. I would choose another novel by this author but it wouldn't be the top of my list.

  • Heily A.M

Absolutely incredible! I love the story and I plan to listen to more of this authors' books. Love the narrator as well, she really makes the book.

  • Vicky Wright

Kept me glued to my ear buds! I love Madalyn ! Narrator was amazing !

  • Kerrianne Wilson

Wasn't as good as What Alice Forgot, but still a good listen. I wish they would have had different narrators for the three different characters; it was difficult for me to keep track of who was who in the beginning.

  • Anna Miller

Great book. Kept me guessing which is great cuz I normally figure things out ahead of time. Definitely recommend this one.

  • Collin Dumas

Amazing book! The narration was spot on too! I highly recommend.

  • Kerry Hemphill

Great read! Loved the voice and accent. A little long but it kept me interested and wanting to come back. Found myself finding time to keep listening. I'm becoming a fast fan of this author.

  • Janet Brammeier

Great book, loved to accent. I usually listen in the car only but I was listening at home too, then I know it was good.

  • Renee Carman

Fabulous on all accounts!!! The Australian accent and variations in characters was perfected by the narrator. I loved the storyline and simply couldn't stop listening

  • Jennifer Rodrigues

Accent sometimes is annoying. Book is a bit drawn out. I got a little bored... Just get to it already.

  • Lenore Dudley

Wonderfully written and narrated. It definitely kept my interest!

  • meagan heikal

Loved the book!! I had so much fun getting to know the characters!

  • Celena Jones

Great twists and turns. You can really see parts of yourself in the characters.

  • Ryan Culver

Great read and loved the narration. I would love to see a follow up book.

  • Karmen Palmer

Loved it! Thus far, I've enjoyed every pick I've made by this author.

  • Robin Maddox

I "read" this book right on the heals of Husbands Secret . I highly recommend both. I love the characters created by LM. Always so human, flawed, and twisty. I've noticed Three Wishes is not as highly rated but I'll give it a go anyway. These books and narriation make me wish I had some friends from Down Under just to hear the speak.

  • Andrea Teague

Loved this book! Narration was fabulous. I love how every character had their own stories yet they all tied together to make 1 incredible story. 2 thumbs up!

  • Heather MacLeod

This was my first experience with an audiobook. I enjoyed this so much more than I expected! I was so drawn into the story from the start! I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator's inflections and ability to make a story with so many characters easy to follow!

  • Gwendolyn Gaither

Really enjoyed the book and the narration--great suspense and an unexpected surprises. Love Moriarty's books.

  • Linda Montez

LOVE love love this book! It made my workdays fly by with its intense suspense and and unforeseen ending. The narrators voice was fun because she had a little spin on each character

  • Jesica Broadnax

Such a great twist at the end!! Kept me entertained the whole way through!

  • Cassandra Sexton

This was such a well-crafted story. The narration was perfect. This has been my favorite audio book to date.

  • Katie Olivares-Perez

This narrator is great! And by starting off with the knowledge that someone is dead, but not who it is or who did it or why, makes it so difficult to stop listening. I NEEDED to know what happened. And every single character pulls on your heartstrings. I feel for all of them. I cannot give this book enough stars!

  • Nelly Navarro-Britt

Love the mystery aspect of it. They talk about a death throughout book, but you don't find out who died until the end. There is a lot of humor for moms & stepfamiles. Narrarator was amazing!

  • Natasha McEuin

I loved this book! Fairly new to a book club so reading is hard for to fit in most days. When I find myself with over due library books I return and will listen to I the remainder to stay current. Very captivating and I think I may be a better listener than reader.

  • Paula Emeigh

Just love this author and narrator as well. Another great story. Remember your kids first day of school? The clicks that were formed between parents and also children based on social class? This book covers that in detail along with bullying and domestic abuse. While true fiction at its finest, this will resonate with anyone who is a parent.

  • Judy Cannioti

This is a captivating book. I highly recommend that you discover its humor and pathos, its truth amid the lies and it's highly relatable characters for yourself. The narrator is excellent and enjoyable.

  • ines jesus

Moriarty's books are so witty and cunning. Love her work. The narrator was EXCELLENT.

  • Beverly Mackey

I kept trying to guess who was murdered at the end and why. I have to admit I was surprised to discover the identity of the victim and the killer. ~Ann Triplett~

  • kimberly moen

Starts out like a shallow but oh-so-funny gossip rag, but stick with it. The book presents quite a serious subject in a pleasant yet brutal light. Narrator is really enjoyable as well.

  • Sydney Culver

I was skeptical about this book at first, and I'm not sure why. Perhaps the fact that it takes place in Australia, I thought I couldn't relate. Let me tell you, I could not have been more wrong. This book is incredible. I identified so much with Madeline's issues with her teenage daughter, that it could have been me talking. The brutal and raw honesty was incredible. I could not put this book down. Five stars! Fantastic narration, ordering another book by Liane Moriarty.

  • Kaitlyn D\'Ambrosio

in love with this book can not put it down! simply wonderful
