Summary
A heartwarming story of friendship and demonic possession

The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since the fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act … different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby.

Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries—and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

Like an unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist, My Best Friend’s Exorcism blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of 80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.

This book is an exceptional rendering of teen-girl friendship, all the more impressive for having been written by a guy. The music and other cultural references hit this Gen-Xer squarely in the feels and the scariness of leaving childhood behind is expertly rendered. Emily Woo Zeller's narration was excellent, conveying a wide range of emotions; spot-on dialogue delivery. Funny, creepy, dark, and beautiful. Loved it.

This was a fun book. The narrator wasn’t bad but could have been better.

This author needs a better editor and a refresher on how to write conversations between characters without simply stating "she said" back and forth endlessly. Surely one of the characters could have replied, responded, or objected at least once. The plot was interesting, it's a shame there wasn't actually much of it.

It’s a story about a beautiful friendship with a hint of possession.

I enjoyed this book immensely! It was fantasticly written and if you grew up in the 80's & 90's there are tons of things you can relate to. But it is not just for that generation. The way the writer ramped up the storyline was great. The narrator also did a wonderful job of bringing in the creep factor. I would recommend this book

This is a genuinely creepy homage to young adult horror novels of 80s and 90s. It’s very well written and I would recommend it to anyone who likes horror or wants an interesting read. There are scenes throughout that were genuinely scary and gave me the creeps with the amazing narration giving it so much tension and realism that I had to stop once or twice to take a small break. This isnt the most brutal horror novel of all time but it is beautifully written, very creepy, has characters that are realistic and genuine and a wonderfully theatric narration that doesn’t go over the top or take away from the material. Highly recommend!
