What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?
One summer morning, twelve-year-old Edward Adler, his beloved older brother, his parents, and 183 other passengers board a flight in Newark headed for Los Angeles. Among them are a Wall Street wunderkind, a young woman coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy, an injured veteran returning from Afghanistan, a business tycoon, and a free-spirited woman running away from her controlling husband. Halfway across the country, the plane crashes. Edward is the sole survivor.

Edward’s story captures the attention of the nation, but he struggles to find a place in a world without his family. He continues to feel that a part of himself has been left in the sky, forever tied to the plane and all of his fellow passengers. But then he makes an unexpected discovery—one that will lead him to the answers of some of life’s most profound questions: When you’ve lost everything, how do you find the strength to put one foot in front of the other? How do you learn to feel safe again? How do you find meaning in your life?

Dear Edward is at once a transcendent coming-of-age story, a multidimensional portrait of an unforgettable cast of characters, and a breathtaking illustration of all the ways a broken heart learns to love again.

Very, very good book. I flew through it. My husband is a pilot and I can appreciate all that each person in this book feels and could picture them through the narrative... I've met many extremely interesting people on planes and even have continued relationships. Of course, listening to this while I was on the plane was a little daunting, but definitely worth the ride - especially as a mom of two young men.

I enjoyed this book. I have experienced a tragic loss and the author was able to describe many of the ways I experienced grief. Very hard to articulate to people, but grief is not just about crying over a loss. It’s so much deeper and all encompassing. I think this book would be a great read for people experiencing grief and people that are trying to understand grieving. It was a great story.

Slow to unfold but it did unfold beautifully and perfectly. What a beautiful book that came from a place of reality and truth and which I was willingly compelled along the journey.

Very slow at the beginning but picked up when he made the discovery in the garage. Predictable characters and ending.

Despite the violence of an airplane crash, this is a gentle book about the coming of age of a disaster survivor. His character is lovingly rendered and he becomes someone to respect and inspire with his innate kindness and, at times, surprising maturity. Well done.
