very raw and real that relates to issues and emotions that we all go through in some point in our lives. LOVE HER HONESTY

This is a must read for not only all WOMEN but all YOUNG WOMEN who think they know, have never cared to know, or have been misinformed about Michelle Obama! What a FANTASTIC and real look inside this amazing FLOTUS’ life. Listening to her narrate made it 100% better. I have been educated, uplifted and changed.

Remarkable... she grew up and lived as so many of us did to then rise above our circumstances and become professionals. Michelle Robinson, however, married one of us Black professionals, who continued to rise and become our first Black president! Everyone needs to read/ listen to this book for you will be better for it!

I have mixed emotions with this book.. one part of me wants to love her as I always have but after listening to this book I am not a Awh stricken with her as I was. I can’t put my finger on it but I have found myself not like liking her as much as I once have. I really hate to say this but it’s how I feel.

She should’ve hired a better ghost writer because this one certainly didn’t make her interesting and or relevant. She would’ve been better hiring the guy that wrote all her husbands speech’s. He clearly has a way of selling lies plus he allowed Obama to take credit for his work so I’m sure the other O could’ve done the same.

Of course the book paints her in a positive light. She wrote it… that’s no surprise. Dive deeper online and you learn the truths of her life and her time as flotus.

Was glad I borrowed from library. Perhaps it might have gotten better? Half way through I stopped listening. For me, it was tediously slow & lacked depth compared to other women's stories. Sadly, to me, the bar for excellence is set rather low these days. Name & position seem too carry more weight than content. Have wondered if an unknown name had been attached, if the book would have found a publisher?

We listened to the book in her own voice while on a long three day trip from Florida to New England a total of about S21 hours. Apart from a few minutes of news, we listened with great appreciation to Michelle telling her own story in her own voice. Totally captivating, great insights into her family and the almost impossible Life lived in the pressure cooker arena of American politics as the first African-American First family. A stunning read.

My 22 year old daughter told me I had to read this book. I was hesitant because I felt it would be overly political. I was wrong! Young people choosing a career, young women looking for their Mr. Right, (hers drove a banana yellow Datson with a hole in floorboard), wives with husbands in high profile jobs, mothers who want to keep their professional career after children, grandmothers, if you value a workout and time with girlfriends, and anyone involved in campaigns need to read or listen to this book. I chose to listen as Michelle Obama reads it. Time well spent❤️but I wish the audiobooks version could include the pictures in hard copy.

Michelle is one of my role models and this book has solidified why. She is so classy and intelligent. Her family is such an inspiration and I am even more honored to have witnessed history with them in the white house. THIS IS A MUST READ!!!

I love her even more. I’ve always respected Mrs. Obama, but listening to her story makes me feel like I know her. There were so many things I could relate to as a mother. I did listen at a slight increase in speed (1.25). It’s a long book, but it went quickly.

Got more insight on the Obama’s it’s truly amazing all they have accomplished all the storms they weathered together and still managed to do it with poise.

I love how Michelle Obama narrated her story about what she had to interact every day on her daily life with all those things she had to do it’s a very interesting narrative book I loved it how she expresses her feelings about what she felt at that time in her life

It would amazing if this was a required reading in schools. At the age of 72, I can use this book to still grow, learn and share what Becoming has done for me. Michelle a beautiful soul.

I really enjoyed that small piece. now I\'m thirsty for more

I had a vision of what Michelle Obama's life was like from the things I saw of her on tv. I couldn't help but have a sense of pride for women of color because of how she carried herself with grace and class on every platform she touched. Becoming provided insight to her personal feelings and emotions along her journey. The grace and class I imagined her to have. just oozes out of every chapter. I no longer have pride. but rather a sense of joy hearing the tasks she accomplished.

Wonderful, thoughtful, engaging, human, and also funny sometimes. A thoroughly enjoyable listen. And inspiring and touching too

I listened to the book on a trip home to Michigan from Atlanta and back to Atlanta again. I could totally relate to many of the things she went through as I am a woman of color who is also a lawyer. I have also been accused of being an "Angry Black Woman" when I have stood my ground and would not be disrespected or allow my clilent to be disrespected. What a wonderful woman so proud of her. It has been an outstanding experience to read Michelle's book during Women's History Month.

An intimate look into her experiences and opinions which led me to look further into myself as a woman in a former leadership position, a future mother and as a human. Her spirit is inspiring.

Michelle Obama writes from her heart. The themes of self-knowledge, family and personal growth dominate. She returns to them often as she tells her story from childhood up to the day that her husband left office in 2017. I learned do much about the work of FLOTUS that I hadn't heard from other first ladies autobiographies. I was transfixed. She is an excellent narrator. Her cadence is just right.

It was amazing listening to Mrs. Obama. So strong and powerful. Learned a lot from her life. It will be nice to listen from her daughters point of view Maybe they also can write a book based on their experiences.

My first audiobook ever! Did not disappoint!!

Honest story that brought me to a better understanding of the roads they traveled. I already highly respected Michelle & Barak Obama, but after experiencing her story, they are even higher on a pedestal than before (if that's possible). I miss them and their guidance of our nation and the world.

I thought this book was very insightful. We civilians just don't know what they went through, not only as the first family, but the first black family in the White House. Michelle Obama's story was so powerful and her reading, impeccable. There's just too much to comment on, but I highly recommend this to everyone.

Very interesting life story I liked the book very much

Empowering and raw. I honestly could have not been reading/listening to this at better time given what is happening in this country. She gives me hope but also the reality is as a country we could do better and have so much growing to do. Listening to her narrate her own story was relaxing and peaceful. It also brought tears to my eyes for her honesty and experiences. After this, I admire her even more now than ever.

An amazing, well-written book.

I was not previously a fan of Michelle Obama, but I took the recommendation of trusted friend… I admit that I was mostly oblivious to the incredible accomplishments of Michelle Obama before and after she met/married Barack. More relevant to this review though is the story, and Michelle’s take on human potential and the wait ways we all suffer when others are oppressed. All in all, the book is an ideal combination of thoughtful, provoking and relevant.

AMAZING! I am glad I read this. It made snese when I saw the Netflix doc.

Fantastic book could not stop listening

I have met her once in DC and even have a picture with her. She is very warm and caring in person and having listened to all 19 hours of her memoir, one understands exactly where she is coming from. I love her motto, ‘when they go low we go high’, that gives you the essence of the person.

Her life story and her perspective of the political world, from campaigning to the day to day inside the White House, are fascinating. Written and read aloud in a delightfully honest and casual tone. Feels like you’re sitting down with Michelle Obama for a chat over a cup of coffee.

Mrs Obama was so real. She was very empathetic and compassionate. She spoke very clearly with a powerful voice, not only in what she said but also how she said it. She was full of great initiatives and I would love to meet her or write to her!

This book has opened my eyes to a world I never understood nor ventured into. As a white lifelong conservative Republican, I have now turned a corner into what I hope to be a life of inclusiveness, openness, and understanding. My ill-fated vote for Trump was motivated by a desire for the appointment of a conservative Supreme Court justice and help from that court to stem the tide of attacks against those who are exercising their right to refuse to act contrary to their beliefs. This book has enabled me to see the broader picture, and while I am no less conservative, I am no longer going to closet myself in my safe, comfortable corner. Both political parties do some things wrong and some things right, however, it is clear to me now that truly caring for the needs of individuals is more prevalent in the Democratic party. I just wish the two parties could work together to make this a better country.

Michelle's story is SOO interesting. From the storie of her uncle, Southside, and the lakeside of Chicago, to the highrise lawfirm in downtown, this story had me imagining I was right there. I could see her upstairs childhood room with its flimsy panel divide... I almost caught the rolled up sock!!! I could hear the plink plink of the imperfect piano keys that taught her a life lesson. Just when you thought you knew all about Michelle...she gives you just a little bit more. I didn't want the book to end. You've GOT to read or to hear this book

Great view of Michelle Obama's life and how the world reacted to her. So many of the negative things put out there were based on misinformation or what "someone else" deemed to be appropriate. She truly has lived the "when they go low, we lo high" mantra in so many ways. She addressed the areas of concern with either, this is how I truly felt or I didn't realize the impact and I made an adjustment. One thing though, I doubt if we would ever, ever see her in a "I don't really care, do u?" jacket, would we?

I can’t recall to how many people I have already recommended this book. An incredible, honest story that has your gripped through the ups and downs, and you feel like Michelle shared a window into her life and really let you in. Hearing her narration was the cherry on top.

Mitchell relates her open and honest feeling about the work and toll seeking and maintaining the office of President had on her family. You see what it takes to live in the bubble and come out the otherside with dignity and respect. This book is an inspiring read.

Not being a woman of color but having many friends (some I consider as family) young and older that are. This was a story I am able to truly learn from to better understand a life that honestly most don't want to talk about. I thank you Michelle Obama for helping me learn from your life.

It’s a wonderful book and story. I heard two times. Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about The Obamas. This book made Mrs. Obama more relatable and not so far away.

What a amazing story of hard work, optimism, determination and the love of your family One can empower yourself and others. Every American citizen should read this book. It is not a political book at all- it is a great way to learn about experiences in the White House , period! If more people read this, not just Obama fans, the world would be a better place and more people would feel educated about the what goes on behind the scenes and becoming the First Family.

Brilliant woman!

I loved getting the candid look into her life and her journey as a women, mother and First Lady. Her writing style is honest, relatable and at times heart breaking. As someone who also knows what it’s like to be “other” I appreciate knowing, through her intimate story telling, that Michelle is just as human as anyone and as all of us. Her story is inspirational and sends a clear message that we all must show up for the life we want and embrace the life we’ve been handed. Thoroughly loved the book and was often moved to tears while listening to it.

This was so awesome being read by Michelle Obama. She knew exactly where the emphasis should be placed and did an awesome job both writing then reading. Loved to hear her voice. I would like to meet her some day.

Her writing ability and the layout of her books story made for a pleasant listening experience. I would highly recommend this book as it shows courage and vision to rise from where you are where you could be and is a revelation of life behind the scenes in Washington

Michelle’s passion, humility and love of family really come across. Inspiring to hear about her efforts to improve the lives of ordinary Americans and rise above so much hatred.

I love her! I really enjoyed the book, but I was an Obama fan, so the material was interesting to me. I was bummed when it was over! Interesting to get a peek into a world so different than what most of us know, from life in Chicago to life in the White House.

Amazing. She is a class act!

I love the truth and honesty of the words spoken by First Lady Michelle Obama. This book is relatable to me in so many ways. I love the real candor she provides along each step of the book's chapters. The added bonus of her reading her own words adds another pearl to this beautiful precious jewel of Becoming Michelle Obama. We all realize that we are all still Becoming in our own journey in life.

Beautiful, luminous, memoir. If I never heard of Michelle Obama, I would have loved it. I daresay she's a better writer than her esteemed husband! Even if you study everything about the Obamas, though, this book will still surprise and delight you.

I am officially inspired

We read this in my book club and it made for very dynamic and interesting discussion. There were 11 women and everyone gave it four stars and up.! This is a very personal and fascinating story!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to my forever First Lady narrate her book. I enjoyed how she let us in her life.. she was authentic and raw... I felt like I was listening to a friend speak the way she kept me entertained. Listening to this book was far better than reading, however, I'm glad I purchased the hard copy as well.

Arguably the best book ever written, made even better by MO reading it. It was like being in the room with her...but much more affordable! Great listen!!

This book was well written as well as articulated. I enjoyed the way so told her story it was like living the moments with her.

Listening to this story I was impressed and inspired. I laughed with her and parts made me cry. She is a truely smart, driven person. And a wonderful and caring mother, wife, and friend. I was captured by every moment of her story and found much of it relatable.

Very interesting how a younger person of the modern age takes up the position of First Lady in an older and established institution and makes changes by just following her intuition. I would have however liked more insight into how it was meeting some of the many celebrities and statesmen she met. There must have far more she could have told.

Becoming was my first political book. I always vote and try to stay tuned to most politics, but she was the first person to move me to read about her experience. I learned a lot and am so proud that our country elected Barack Obama and gave Michelle an incredible platform. She is most definitely someone to look up to and emulate!

As a male and a republican this book wasn’t meant for me but I found it enjoyable and I’m glad I read it. I think that’s what drew me to it. It was very interesting to learn about her history, professional career as well as more about our former Presidents family life, I value them both even if I don’t agree with some of the things they did. I think she’s a role model for young people and it looks like history will view her that way as well. I hope she continues to write and be in the public eye. I would recommend this book

Living in a world where politicians treat each other with vailed angst and false pleasantries, I found Michelle’s blatant and honest assessment of our political system, and society as a whole, refreshing. Her memoir inspired me with her uplifting story of success from such humble origins, and simultaneously brought me almost to tears recognizing the rapid decline our society has taken in the post-Obama era. If ever there was a time we needed a message of hope, it’s now.

love this story. so remarkable and so generous. I really felt like she shared so much, but in only the way Michele Obama would; total class. When she was little, it was so interesting to get to know who she was as her life was unfolding. It was so excited to think.... "oh my goodness, this girl is going to meet Barrack Obama someday~!"

Michelle’s voice was pleasant. Her honesty and openness to share her inner most intimate feelings of her life. Definitely The First Lady and a great read.

I’m could not love Michelle Obama more! The book was so interesting and honest. I usually don’t like memoirs but love this one and I loved listening to her narrate her own story.

An American dream story told by a woman who worked hard and deserved every accomplishment. Michelle Obama inspires me as a woman, wife and mother. As a military spouse, I am personally grateful for all her hard work in recognizing and helping military families. She really did make a difference.

This book really speaks to me. I see so much of myself in Mrs. Obama. I find her story very relatable in a sense that she didn’t come from money like most ivy league graduates. She had intellect, ambition and determination to succeed and that’s why she came out on top! I love this book and I’m thankful for the opportunity to get a glimpse inside her world.
