Summary
From the #1 New York Times bestselling authors: Racing to uncover the mystery of several severed feet found floating in the Gulf of Mexico, Agent Pendergast is faced with the most inexplicable challenge of his career.

A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

A ghastly enigma with no apparent solution. Called away from vacation elsewhere in the state, Agent Pendergast reluctantly agrees to visit the crime scene—and, despite himself, is quickly drawn in by the incomprehensible puzzle. An early pathology report only adds to the mystery. With an ocean of possibilities confronting the investigation, no one is sure what happened, why, or from where the feet originated. And they desperately need to know: are the victims still alive?

A worthy challenge for a brilliant mind. In short order, Pendergast finds himself facing the most complex and inexplicable challenge of his career: a tangled thread of evidence that spans seas and traverses continents, connected to one of the most baffling mysteries in modern medical science. Through shocking twists and turns, all trails lead back to a powerful adversary with a sadistic agenda and who—in a cruel irony—ultimately sees in Pendergast the ideal subject for their malevolent research.

Really great book, it actually was my first Pendergast book, so now I am onto the rest of the books with him....be patient as it gets better as it builds.

I listen to 1 or 2 audiobooks a week . I couldn’t get into this. I didn’t like the reader. There were too many details that were hardly captivating. It was boring….at least as far as I got. I don’t have time to listen to books that don’t capture my attention.

The reading was great, but I found myself wishing it was over towards the end. I just didn’t get a thrilling vibe from this novel. It was almost like you knew what was coming, it just took forever. The complicated word usage didn’t help. Just not one of my favorites.

I am definitely a true fan of the Pendergast series. this book did not necessarily disappoint, but it may have dragged just a tad. Most disappointing and sad is the narrator. I recently just found out that Rene Auberjonais has passed away. For me, really intonated the voice(s) of characters in the series as I would have envisioned them, especially Pendergast. Perhaps another voice actor or maybe I'll go to reading the books.

Again Special Agent Pendergast assisted by his lovely fearless ward Theresa and couragous Agent Coldmoon and shows his great skills in solving a heavy crime.

WOW!! This lived up to everything you want from a Pendergast novel, including a clean link to the next book. What’s not to love about that! What made it so great for me? Great plot and subplot. Settings deep and well developed. But the best? Constance was a major character. And Agent Coldmoon, a fabulous character from the Lonely Hearts case, was a major player here again. Hopefully future novels provide platforms for more of them both. Lastly. I wondered who would ever take on the mantle of narration after the loss to cancer of Rene Auberjenois, narrator par excellence of so many Pendergast novels. I doubted. I was wrong. Jefferson Mays is a brilliant narrator. May he settle into this series for a long time.

Absolutely AWESOME! I’ve read every book collaboration by Lincoln and Child. But for the previous installment, they all for the most part, are exceptional pieces of work! Can’t get enough of Constance and Alloysius. MOST EXCELLENT!
