Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous breakup—from the author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising, and Carrie Soto Is Back

REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK • COMING SOON AS AN ORIGINAL STREAMING SERIES EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY REESE WITHERSPOON

Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

Praise for Daisy Jones & The Six

“Daisy Jones & The Six is just plain fun from cover to cover. . . . Her characters feel so vividly real, you’ll wish you could stream their albums, YouTube their concerts, and google their wildest moments to see them for yourself.”—HelloGiggles

“Reid delivers a stunning story of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll in the 1960s and ’70s in this expertly wrought novel. Mimicking the style and substance of a tell-all celebrity memoir . . . Reid creates both story line and character gold. The book’s prose is propulsive, original, and often raw.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

This was a very fun listen that completely immersed me in the story. Highly recommend this, as well as anything else by this author.

This was a unique, intriguing, and captivating listen. I loved how each of the band members had their own voice. I truly felt like a was there and could easily visualize this story. Great listen, I highly recommend.

A book about a fictional band? How unique can that be? But somehow it’s fun and entertaining and had me wishing they’d really exist. Narrators are great.

Love the story and it’s narrators. I’m about 1/2 through the audio book and I’m getting sleepy from the way each person is interviewed like watching a documentary on tv, except this documentary isn’t 2 hours long. I’m not sure if the book is written in this same format but having a hard time wanting to continue listening to the storytelling documentary style.

I wanted to love this book. The first few minutes drew me right in and the writing style tried its hardest to hold me. However, I found myself a little bored in the middle, not fully invested in the characters or storyline. But I made it to the end and it offered a twist that did feel satisfying. I would call this a quick beach read or a good stop gap between heavier books.

Great book, Taylor Jenkins Reid has a really characteristic writing style in her books and this one is no exception. The narration is excellent, and honestly takes this from a 4 star book to a 5 star audiobook. It's engaging, dynamic, and overall a standout listen, even if the "big twist" is a bit lackluster. Basically if you liked The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo or are a fan of Fleetwood Mac you'll be into this book.

What a fun book, it was so fun hearing different narrators for each character. I wanted to hear them play , I so badly wanted to hear Daisy sing

This book was okay. The style was very similar to Evelyn Hugo, but I’m not sure if it’s equal to (the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo) or worse than. As a woman writing from a woman’s perspective, this book is only written like there is one woman prototype: the woman who is in love/ wants to be loved. Karen is written like some after-thought, secondary character, to show you what happens if women don’t choose a specific path (and are doomed to unhappiness). Narration was 10/10, no notes.

This book was not what I was expecting at all. Daisy is obnoxious and thinks no rule applies to her simply because she’s privileged, rich, and everyone calls her beautiful. She decides she wants a MARRIED man she can’t have and their working relationship is romanticized as love? I swear every time I had to read about Daisy and Billy longing for each other while singing into one another’s eyes onstage I wanted to throw my phone. This was nothing but a bunch of adults bickering like petulant children and nothing else. I don’t understand the hype for this story. It makes me even more leery of ratings by the masses. If this is what passes as great literature or great storytelling now, I’m concerned.

The story is awesome, I enjoyed the story. All the characters are pretty complex, and they have their own issues and desires. Billy, Daisy, and Camilla were at the forefront of the story, and then there was also Karen and Graham. All these characters, plus some of the more minor characters all triggered emotional reactions from me. I was intrigued, angry, sad, and irritated from start to finish. I think good books evokes all those emotions, listening to the audiobook help me better understand the character’s emotional struggles, and that made the reading experience even richer. I rated the story 4 out of 5 stars because while the story was addicting and the characters captivating, the interview format was REALLY started to get on my nerves when I was about 80% finished with the book. It was pages and pages of essentially dialogue, I felt like I want the dialogue to be broken up the way The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was broken up, but that’s just my opinion.

I love how the story flows, the documentary style story telling and I love that every character has its own voice. I thought for a second that the band group was real that I end up googling then realize it was a fictional characters. But The author got me real bad. Overall, I enjoyed listening to it.

It's a quick listen with a decent plot. If I was to compare the story to a coin, Fleetwood Mac would be one side and Daisy Jones & the Six would be the other, but it's still the same coin. It took me a few minutes to get into the story and get with the narration style. This was the first time I've listened to an audiobook with this type of narration. However as soon as I settled in I was hooked. Definitely worth listening to if you're looking for something quick.

I listened to this on a long drive by myself and didn't want anything too complicated. Thought it was a great story, and it kept me entertained. I liked the fact each character had their own voice too - that made it easy to follow, and more interesting. I still have 2 hours left. Will have to plan another short road trip!

Started reading the book after mid-way through the series. Loved Jennifer Beals as Daisy Jones!!! overall, all the voice actions were great and complementary to the show. The song at the end, wish we had the lyrics with it / someone singing on the track.

I didn’t expect to love this story as much as I did. The book was well written, and the plot was intriguing, but the narration by the talented cast members absolutely made the story come alive. Highly recommend.

The style of this book was a little irritating it does not allow for character development very choppy although some people may really enjoy it, this book is not a story its more of a conversation and opinion nothing to ground yourself to for what was the reality?

The ending was very emotional, and I was expecting a song at the end. There was music but nobody sang… it felt hollow. It was a great story about a band but without a song it felt like a huge part was missing

I loved this book!! It was a even more fascinating listening to it. The story told through interviews was so clever. It made it feel like this band really did exists. I was truly sad and even she’d a few tears when it was over.

wow, this book blew me away. last chapter clinched the book in the 5 star for me!

Profile Avatar

I think I may have been disappointed because it was so highly hyped. I thought the concept was really unique but when you are watching a documentary about a famous band you’d hear their music. It was a big piece to be missing. You are also missing the attachment to the characters at the beginning. It ended strong as you begin to develop attachments to the characters.

I didn’t enjoy the format of a series of quotes to follow the story. The story was really the Fleetwood Mac Rumours LP. It wasn’t great. Except for the rich voice of Benjamin Bratt, it wasn’t a great listen.

Such a phenomenal cast of complex characters that I had to stop mid-way through to read-up on which real-life band inspired the story. The varied and talented narrators helped to keep the the dialogue from getting confusing... I only wish it came with a complete soundtrack as my imagination is, sadly, a bit musically challenged.
