Unabridged Audiobook
I loved learning more about Asajj and Voss, and I feel like I learned more about the Force and the missteps of the Jedi Council. I thought the narration was awesome, too. I believed all the characters, and the story was amazing and exciting!
Extremely fun and gripping story, plays great to anyone familiar with Clone Wars. Narration is spot on with characters like Yoda, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Clone Troopers, and Boosk. So much more fun to listen with the added music and SFX
It could be called a shame we never got to see this episode in the Clone Wars Series, but then we'd never have been able to read this book. Though The Bad Batch has thrown some cold water on the ending, this book is some of the best Star Wars since Legends.
Loved getting to hear more about Asajj Ventress!
The writing was amazingly similar to Clone Wars. I did feel like I was fully engulfed in a Clone Wars Story Arc, it made me love Asajj V even more than I did when she was fighting with Obi-Wan and helping Ashoka. The narrator was terrific (as always), his Yoda, Dooku, and Obi, were spot on. Mace did sound like Lando (a bit too much), and Asajj was too manly. But it was still great fun and didn't distract from the amazing story.
A story of love and redemption between a maverick Jedi and one of the most notorious Separatist war criminals set in the late days of the Clone Wars, this is easily one of the best Star Wars books I’ve read so far. When Jedi master Quinlan Vos is selected by the Jedi Council to assassinate Count Dooku he is teamed up with Asajj Ventress on a mission that threatens to send him down a dark path he may not return from. An adaptation of what was planned to be an 8-episode story arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ 7th season, I still maintain this was one of the show’s best story arcs ever. Continuing Asajj’s story from where it last left off in season 5 and featuring the return of Quinlan Vos, this is an epic love story with a large ensemble cast including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Mace Windu and Count Dooku while also featuring some select smaller appearances from other well-known characters. A galaxy spanning story, the heart and soul lies in Asajj and Quinlan’s relationship. While featuring a healthy dose of action and adventure, the story is first and foremost a character centric one. It wouldn’t work if Asajj and Quinlan don’t work, but author Christie Golden and screenwriter Katie Lucas do an incredible job writing these two characters. You get invested in them and the fallout of their actions. While I will caution that watching The Clone Wars will make the book work much better, it isn’t a real necessity. The book can still be enjoyed if you haven’t watched the show, but there will be many references and assumed prior knowledge that will go over your head that will detract from the story, albeit without losing or confusing you completely. That said, this is an incredible tale of forbidden love, tragedy, loss, and ultimate redemption that any fan of The Clone Wars needs to experience ASAP. An incredible and masterfully told character-driven story, Dark Disciple takes you on Quinlan Vos’s mission to assassinate Count Dooku, and the path that leads him down. With Asajj Ventress added to the mix, the mission becomes complicated by another story of forbidden love between these two unlikely lovers. What follows is one of the best stories in the Star Wars canon still to this day. While it only truly shines its brightest for those who have watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this is still a story well worth reading. With a large ensemble cast including members of the Jedi Council, there are plenty of well-known characters fans love that show up throughout the book. Of particular note is Obi-Wan Kenobi, who truly shines here as one of the best Jedi in the Order at this point in time, practicing the code, ethics, and virtues that truly make one a Jedi. Quinlan and Asajj are deep and complex characters with nuanced character arcs that explore rich and meaningful themes of love and family. A story of redemption that feels so real and earned makes this story truly amazing. While it does hit some snags in its pacing (especially in the back half where it can lose its focus a bit) due to it being an adaptation of several episodes an animated tv show, it overcomes all its faults with its absolute stellar writing and characters. Spanning many months and traveling across the galaxy, this is a truly epic tale of forbidden love that also explores the dark side and how it can affect even the brightest of Jedi. I can’t recommend this book enough.
One of the best star wars books i've listened to so far. This is probably my favorite, tied with Lords of the Sith
Another great listen!
Too many times the back ground sounds are too loud or create an interference sound that drowns out the dialogue but over it is was narrated well. The story was fantastic and if you are a ventress fan at all you will be pleased with this book. Excellent plot lines
I wasn't expecting this to blow me away ... but it did
great story but marc's narration is terrible as always
Great insight into some smaller characters like Assajj and Voss.
