Summary
Bram Stoker did not invent the vampire story, but he popularized it with his classic 1897 novel. In form Dracula is an epistolary novel, told through a series of journal entries, letters, newspaper articles, and telegrams. It begins with lawyer Jonathan Harker's perilous journey to Castle Dracula in Transylvania, and chronicles the vampire's invasion of England, where he preys upon the lovely Lucy Westenra and Harker's fiancee, Mina. Harker and Mina join forces with lunatic asylum proprieter Dr. Seward, Lucy's fiance Arthur Holmwood, Texas man of action Quincey Morris, and Dutch vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing to try and defeat their powerful adversary.

Always loved this novel. The narrators were all excellent except MB who read Harker's journal. That voice was annoying. Bad accent mispronouncing words.

Profile Avatar Laura Smith Jun 2016

Excellent book but one of the narrators has a heavy accent

Profile Avatar Melodie S. May 2018

I always wanted to listen to this book but the narration made it hard. It definitely got better as we got farther in but the nasal narration made it tough going for awhile.

Profile Avatar Unknown U. Jan 2019

Awesome book loved all readers except MB but overall really good

Profile Avatar robyn ramalho Feb 2015

Great book!! I listen to my books while commuting (I have a three hour commute each day) and couldn't wait to get into my car and turn on my book!! I even enjoyed the different narrators - they made it even more interesting!

Profile Avatar Jon E. Jan 2020

This is a literary classic however I may be anal but the narrators voice was like nails on a chalkboard

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

I cannot convey how much I thoroughly enjoyed Bram Stoker’s novel! With brilliant narration, this book is the perfect item of literature! I profoundly loved the narration of ‘dr.sewards diary’, and every instant I heard this to be the next narration, I knew I would simply love this next scene; with the perfect demonstration upon the character of Renfield throughout his diary entries.

Profile Avatar Oren T Nov 2019

I would rate this higher but for the reader “MB” whose nasal whine was enough that I nearly stopped at chapter 4 but friends persuaded me to continue. Thankfully not much beyond that point the story shifts away from Jonathan Harker and we have a long break before we hear that whine again. The others are good readers, particularly the part of Dr Seward.

Profile Avatar Brooke S. Aug 2019

One of the narrators really ruined this read for me. Dennis Sayer... WOW.... This guy can barely read. I'm not even worried about some of the background noise. This book was free. Even so, I have to warn people. He reads as if there is no punctuation.

Profile Avatar Minya S. Aug 2019

This is one of my all-time favourite books, I have it in three different editions; Original diction, modern diction and norwegian translation. They should really redo some of the narration in this audioversion. For the most part, the cast reads pretty well, except for MB, who reads Jonathan Harker, who has bad pacing, bad pronunciation and some times really bad interpretation of the emotions in the story. They should also redo the entire audio due to shite audio, bad microphones and lots of background noise. Make it a studiorecording, instead of something that sounds like a few people has read through their home-computers with bad headphone mics.

Profile Avatar John I. Jan 2020

This book i think you will enjoy or you will stop listening there will be no inbetween, being a Dracula tragic even though long winded i did very much enjoy this version.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2019

Extraordinary. I loved all the narration. All the voices made it very exciting. Great job all! At first MB was a little hard but as the book progressed I felt the voice suited the character and liked all the narration.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2019

Like the book but the narrator sounded like he had a stuffed nose.... annoying.

Profile Avatar Anne B. Jul 2018

Enjoyed most of the narrators, however did not enjoy Johnathan Harkers narrator, thankfully he only narrators the first part and the remainder of the book is mostly other people. I liked all the different narrators.

Profile Avatar Tara M. May 2018

jonathon harkers narrator was not to my liking, but overall a great book.

Profile Avatar Krista D Jul 2017

Overall very good. Slow at some parts but that is typical of the period of writing. Didn't care for the narrator that did Johnathon and there was another that had a very thick accent that I missed most of what he said. The rest did a great job!

Profile Avatar Earl Kilgore Mar 2017

Not an easy listen. Very slow plot.

Profile Avatar Jackie Moyer Jan 2017

Story was good but the narratorr was the worst, thank goodness there were other ones to make up for it but I eventually had to turn it off- he had no change in tone, and his voice was too high pitched for my taste.

Profile Avatar Mary Grieshaberwilliams Mar 2016

To slow and readers are terrible . There's not enough action for what I consider Dracula to have had. The readers were terrible.

Profile Avatar Christine Caridi Dec 2015

I enjoyed this book. Most of the narrators were very good except perhaps one of them who had a heavy accent and was somewhat difficult to understand. It kept me interested and I looked forward to listening to it!

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

At times it got a little long-winded and repetitive. But there were other parts of the story that were very exciting and moved along. Some of the accents were difficult to understand and at times the narration was to fast. I love the beginning of the story and was very disappointed with the end. It seemed like the author Got tired and just wanted to in the book. I was expecting a little more dramatic ending.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

I always wanted to read this book but am glad I heard this instead for it is a long book how ever it’s very good .

Profile Avatar Jennifer S. Apr 2020

Loved it the details where very good it’s amazing how much more a book can be than a movie

Profile Avatar Norman Baer Apr 2020

I had read the story before so I knew it would be good. The different readers each added their own dimension to the story line. Which I liked. What I really didn't like was all the wasted time between chapters. This is my first Librivox audio book so I wasn't expecting all the delay. The delays st times ruined the pace of the story. I most likely wouldn't read another Librivox book because of that

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

Very well read

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2020

The narration was fine. Relax, listen with an open mind, and the readers with an accent are easy to follow.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2019

Please ensure the readers actually learn to pronounce the names of the main characters and places. It is painful to hear .

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2019

A good listen. Don’t care for the voice of MB. Good use of grammar. Would recommend.

Profile Avatar Dorothy A. Aug 2019

This was a very entertaining story

Profile Avatar Shaniece P. Aug 2019

I really enjoyed this on all levels, I like that their were different people reading to give the story life!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2019

Mb mispronounced a lot of words and I can here mb laughing as well as other people in the background

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2019

What was that

Profile Avatar Levi K. Jun 2019

Not as dry as I’d expected from a story this old.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2019

It’s pretty good. Love listening to it when I’m going to bed/ sleep

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2018

It's a classic. Brilliant writing. Narrators were good except MB sounded like there was something in his mouth as he read.

Profile Avatar Elin R Mar 2018

Too high pitch voice on one of the narrators, others were low. Would have liked one narrator.

Profile Avatar Andrea c Jan 2018

There are two narrators that are good but the rest are terrible and I couldn’t finish the title because I couldn’t continue to listen to them

Profile Avatar inette c Oct 2017

greatvnarration for the most part voices became very low for myself to hear at certain points.

Profile Avatar VivaLaXVBrigada Feb 2025

THE classic of ALL classics! ☝️

Profile Avatar Amber S. Feb 2023

I found it long and hard to follow.

Profile Avatar Miss Cazzy Bee Feb 2023

Always an enjoyable read for me. Most of the narrators were good but one in particular I struggled to listen to.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2021

I.....this book is...different but I like it it’s a good

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Well read and engaging

Profile Avatar Anonymous Aug 2020

Classic story read by a great cast made it so interesting

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2020

The whole book was read like listening to notes or a diary, not in real time. So that made it unscary for me.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2026

Thrilling novel so captivating feel Draculas voice should be replaced with MB. All the other narrators were brilliant

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2026

I didn't like it

Profile Avatar Paul M. Mar 2026

Don't spend your credit on this, it's a librevox recording which means it's free on their website

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2025

great story line but narrator was droning every so often but overall great book

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2025

I never read this before, it was quite enjoyable. Narration was exceptional.

Profile Avatar Bennetti Oct 2025

Very good

Profile Avatar Mina Markorp Jul 2025

good

Profile Avatar Oceana K. Jul 2025

4.9 stars , Wow Dracula by Bram Stoker is, I mean it started pretty slow and felt like it could of been a little shorter Which was a minus for me. I at the beginning I didn't really quite like how it was in a diary format, but throughout the book it made more sense on why it was placed this way, for the re-calling of horror events that each of these characters went through. but overall I must say that I was spooked and amazed with the story and how after loss and mourning they the character's lean on each other for comfort during the dark times. As we hear with Seward and Godalming. Narrators did the best they could especially MB, But overall the story was really good that I didn't care too much about how the voice for each character were but more so the story.

Profile Avatar Alice Churchill Jun 2025

Brilliant

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2024

As others have stated, MB's narration was annoying. The others were great. Fascinating story, quite involved. Very much indicative of the period, 1897.

Profile Avatar Ron P. Aug 2024

Great story as always. Will be a classic forever. One of the greatest creatures of all time. Vampires captured my imagination and it all began with DRACULA! No comment on narration.

Profile Avatar Rondavooo Apr 2024

Fabulous in every way

Profile Avatar Alexina K. Dec 2023

Thoroughly enjoyed this book on my second attempt to listen. Most of the narrators were excellent and I think the initial narrator’s voice was the reason why I was unable to “get into it” on my first attempt at listening. A truly great story - way ahead of its time, and the foundation of all vampire stories!

Profile Avatar Sydni H. Oct 2023

I'm only on chapter two but I cannot stand MB's voice. incredibly annoying, can't wait until anyone else starts reading .. please,mb whoever you are, find a new career path, your voice is extremely irritating

Profile Avatar PokeSmot Sep 2023

This was not what I was expecting. It was very hard to follow with all the different narrators. MB was hard to interpret at times. You must have to really be able to focus good with this book because it jumps all over the place with all these journal entries from one persons journal to the next person‘s journal I was lost. Even at the very end, I still don’t even know what happened exactly I’m sorry but I don’t see how this is a classic. I was completely lost the whole time.

Profile Avatar Thomas W. Jul 2023

Well done. The book keeps your attention until the end.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2023

great book

Profile Avatar Damian M. May 2023

the reading seemed very odd and had to turn off

Profile Avatar Juals Apr 2023

At first it was a bit slow but I hate giving in. I'm so glad I continued as I really enjoyed it. The different narrators were excellent as it was like listening to a film with the different characters. I actually hated it when it finished. Very good.

Profile Avatar David J. Dec 2022

A classic novel that inspired who-knows how many others. The narrator's were alright, not perfect but I cannot complain.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2022

MB is a lil much at first. But reads well. I just invisioned Jonathan as a bit of a dandey and got through it. Great book wouldn't change a thing 3 out 5 stars.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2022

Amazing writing, I wish the voice was more theatrical but I’m sure that because of the intense nature of the movies. Great Audio option !

Profile Avatar Robyn M. Aug 2022

I really enjoyed this book

Profile Avatar Alicia H. Jun 2022

I only regret not reading this earlier. If you like any vampire tale, this is foundational. The readers were great for the most part. Some of the accents didn’t make sense for the characters but they were read well for what it was. The story is long but comes full circle in a way that if you get a quarter way, it’s worth the full journey. Pro tip - Consider speeding it to 1.3x if it seems to drag.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2022

I like it.

Profile Avatar Mr S. Feb 2022

I believe it’s our duty to write reviews on the book as we listen and so I would say that this is a very nice book and I’ve enjoyed it. Almost all the narrators were good except a few but overall it’s a good listen.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2022

The second the narrator even said her name I was done. Her voice is so outrageous I can’t get into the sorry

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jan 2022

love story, but the narrator is left to be desired.

Profile Avatar Tyson B. Jan 2022

Love this book! It’s clever, funny, and still holds up today. The narrator does a great job

Profile Avatar james creech Dec 2021

couldn't get past the narrator.

Profile Avatar Joe L. Nov 2021

invigorating

Profile Avatar Alice V. Nov 2021

cool very. interesting it can be very scary also

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2021

Very good story!! Couple of the narrators were hard to understand.

Profile Avatar Brian B. Oct 2021

This is an absolutely horrible book. Some of the readers are painful to listen to and hard to understand. The book itself, is painfully slow.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2021

I thought the narration was fine. It's a full cast! Fantastic quality given it's free content put out by volunteers. The story is definitely dated and a bit hard to digest as a modern reader, but it's still entertaining and worth a read. It must have been astoundingly unusual at the time that it was first published.

Profile Avatar Lorraine Simpson Sep 2021

I was surprised to find that Bram stoker had written more that this story. he is a great writer and I enjoyed the story and most of the narration.

Profile Avatar Alan R. Jul 2021

I don’t know how Dennis Sayer ever got a job as a narrator… but he destroyed the experience for me. Loved the writing, enjoyed everything else… could not suffer Mr Sayer though… just… couldn’t… do… it

Profile Avatar Walter McCartney May 2021

I found the love and friendship between the main characters to be very touching. Somehow I doubt if such friendships would be believable in our so politically correct world of today. Besides being a good book it is time travel at it's best.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2021

A captivating classic told by engaging narrators.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2021

This audio book is delightful , narrator was difficult to get use to at first but I soon settled into enjoying the story.

Profile Avatar Ayla W. Apr 2021

Did not like the narrator

Profile Avatar RachelO Apr 2021

I know it's old and as such a period piece but I had never read it and surprisingly really enjoy it

Profile Avatar Nmc5359! Feb 2021

Lacked the entertainment factor

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2020

The book was great and the cast was good, with the exception of that MB fellow. What was up with that voice. Totally insufferable.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2020

this story is awesome either was the narrator

Profile Avatar Maria P. Oct 2020

Enjoyed this book and as others mentioned there are sections that are difficult to understand but took little away from the story.

Profile Avatar Lauren H. Sep 2020

Narrorators were ok... MB wasn’t as bad as I was expecting I did have to speed it up a notch
