Unabridged Audiobook
This was weird and fun, takes a bit of patience to follow the convoluted narrative but definitely worth it.
Had so much fun reading/listening to this second installment! so Happy to see my favorite Gothic bone witch ascend to new too-smart-for her-own-good heights, new love-to-hate Lyctor characters and a thrilling race against time, beasts and the discovery of pasts sins.Loved the narration by Moira Quirk who is a genius. Also, Lesbian angst and tenderness at its best. Chapeau !
amazing I loved this book!
Honestly, I loved the first book in this series. It was a pretty obvious YA mystery thriller. But the characters were fun and the magic system had an interesting twist. Plus the high magic/ scifi combo added a little extra flavor. Over all, I would recommend it. This book, not so much. The story isn’t really confusing it just feels unnecessarily convoluted. The switches in perspective of the story teller just don’t feel that well written and don’t seem to add much. I respect the author trying to make it new and fresh, and I think the idea was fine, the execution just wasn’t there this time.
Harrow jumps back into the world of The Locked Tomb head first, and just like a concussion it scrambles your perceptible of what is real immediately. You'll need patience, persistence, and a willingness to be almost completely lost to enjoy it to the fullest. Moira Quirk repeats her incredible performance taking on the extended cast in this second novel. Her clear joy and attachment to these characters shines through in each chapter. This second book in the series will give you more questions than answers, in my experience. That being said the deep dive into Harrow's psyche is incredibly illuminating in its own right. Harrow is a very complex and charming character, as long as you love weird goths with God Complexes.I love this series and so must recognize my personal inability to view it critically. To me, Harrow is a must read for fans of science fiction, complex queer relationships, distorted religious hierarchy, and found family that you try to run from as fast as your feet will carry you.
Love hate for this book. I like half of what is going on and am completely uninterested in the other half.
I love and hate these books. they are very interesting and well written in an infuriating way. The ending pissed me the hell off and now im tempted to read the 3rd. Just why.
best book I have read in my entire life oh my god
Incredible :)
this is the unreliable narrator trope done absolute justice, tamsyn muir is a genius and i will read whatever she puts out. also the narrator, as for gideon, is Fantastic!!
A challenging yet wonderful story where the payoff is more than worth the journey.
A brain bending adventure with high re-readability that further develops Tamsyn Muir's universe of Gideon the Ninth and the place of the Nine Houses within it. Highly recommend. Moira Quirk is a genius with voices.
The dialog was really slow. DNF
Love this series
Great listen, the narrator is fantastic, her consistent voice acting of the myriad of character is impressive and really help you get into the book. As for the book, the story is really entrancing but beware of the strange and mind boggling narration. It's part of the book strong points tho. Trying to unravel what happened, the true from the false, reality from illusion.
The first person writing is deeply frustrating and makes the book so much harder to follow. as good as Gideon the Ninth is, is how mediocre Harrow the Ninth is.
I was confused in places, but it didn't matter. Thrilling story and excellent characters. I was disappointed with the ending but I'm drooling for the 3rd book. When I heard it wasn't coming out until 2022 I almost cried. If your a fan of this genre, this is a must read series.
