Summary
In this haunting memoir, an American icon tells her story of a challenging childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

One of the most celebrated and beloved actors of our time, Sally Field has an infectious charm that has captivated the nation for more than five decades. From the dazzling complexity of Sybil, to the Academy Award-winning performances in Norma Rae and Lincoln, Field has stunned audiences time and time again with her artistic range and emotional acuity. Yet there is one character who always remained hidden: the shy and anxious little girl within.

With raw honesty, humility, and authenticity her fans have come to expect, Field brings readers behind-the-scenes for not only the highs and lows of her star-studded early career in Hollywood, but deep into the truth of her lifelong relationships–including her complicated love for her own mother.

Powerful and unforgettable, In Pieces is an inspiring account of life as a woman in the second half of the twentieth century.

Field is an amazing actress and I can’t help but think, that’s why at her second academy award where she said “You really like me” is BC she hasn’t had an easy life and had found it difficult as a child. Her step father did so much damage. On many levels. I love Sally Field. Her scene in the cemetery on Steel Magnolias is one I ALWAYS remember and will always bring a tear to my eye and evoke such emotion. Sally Field is a gift to us all. ♥️

What an honest book about a hardworking woman. I laughed and cried. The relationship with her Mother was heartbreaking and “magical” (as her Mother once said to her) at the same time. What a pleasure it was to get to know, Sally Field, through this book! Amazing read!

I’ve always been a big fan, and remain so following this book

This heartfelt autobiography by a very, gifted and courageous woman reached deeply to my soul. The pain of abuse Sally Fields endured and was able to rise above, speaks clearly to the heart. She is a wonderful example of a woman of unusual determination and success. E.Longmire

I never knew she had such a difficult life as a young girl and young woman. I appreciate her candid recollection of her memories and sharing them publicly in a well written biography of her life. The fact that she narrates the book herself adds to the depth of her candour.

I really enjoyed getting to know Sally Field better. There were so many surprises in the book, sometimes she was just like every other working mother, coming home from the job, cooking dinner and trying to keep peace in the family. It made her into a real woman for me. I'm very glad I listened to this book.

Intimate story of Sally’s life told in a slightly melancholy tone. I got the feeling she still can’t quite grasp her effect on her audience. She deserves all the professional praise she gets. Love her.

I had always enjoyed the many characters Ms. Field played and had no idea of the pain she held inside for so long. Wonderfully written and narrated as well. My hat is off to you Sally and you have even more of my respect. Bless you!
