Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Once in a great while, a book comes along that changes our view of the world. This magnificent novel from the Nobel laureate and author of Never Let Me Go is “an intriguing take on how artificial intelligence might play a role in our futures ... a poignant meditation on love and loneliness” (The Associated Press). • A GOOD MORNING AMERICA Book Club Pick!

“What stays with you in ‘Klara and the Sun’ is the haunting narrative voice—a genuinely innocent, egoless perspective on the strange behavior of humans obsessed and wounded by power, status and fear.” —Booker Prize committee

Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: what does it mean to love?

Unfortunately the narrator’s voice turned me off....I’m sure she was casted because she sounds like a robot, but that voice is totally monotonous and lacks charm. Couldn’t continue listening...

this is such a interesting book. I would have never imagined to think of the subject matter

I loved this book. I would and will probably read it again. I still think about Klara occasionally.

Really interesting idea and listen, I just wish that there was more of an explanation at the end.

I found it heart wrenching, that parents would consider replacing their dying child with a motorized facsimile. My child died and in no way have I ever even considered replacing her with a motorized doll that would act like she would act. That’s sad, creepy, twisted and distasteful in a certain way. It is a story told in first person from the AI’s perspective. It’s about Artificial Friends and human loneliness. It encompasses love, faith, insight, foresight, compassion in a dystopian future where children are “uplifted” to make them smarter and everyone is homeschooled by online tutors like during the pandemic.

Interesting read. Relevant to the issues surrounding the increasing role of AI. The story is told by Klara ,a “robot” , who’s observations are both insightful and yet naive. Her sensitivity and selfishness are not qualities one usually associates with AI.

This was exactly the intriguing and slightly creepy tale I expected from Ishuguro. I really enjoyed the narration.

it makes you think can an AI have feelings , it seems this AF did have such feelings , so interesting

The future is here before we knew it.

Even thought the narrator was just amazing, I found the story way too bland and uninteresting

Meh. Not a very compelling or riveting story. At the end I wondered what the point had been. The narrator did well sounding like a robot, but her other voices weren't great, and her British accent was particularly bad. All in all there are so many great books I could have listened to, and this one felt mediocre on all fronts.

I think this book is for young adults.

This should have been a young adult book. I was really looking forward to this but it really feel short.

I love both the book and the Narration!
