“I am loving Little Fires Everywhere. Maybe my favorite novel I've read this year.”—John Green

'Witty, wise, and tender. It's a marvel.' – Paula Hawkins

From the bestselling author of Everything I Never Told You, a riveting novel that traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned – from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.

Enter Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.

When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town--and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides.  Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.

Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

Little’s fires is an amazing and important piece of literature. It tackles varying themes that are controversial and explores many sides of each situation. It made me really ponder the importance or race relations; what is racism and blindness; equally as damaging. The idealized scenery of Shaker Heights was reminiscent of the neighbour hood I grew up in, Lawrence Park, Toronto Ontario; garbage in back, garage in back, no rubbishy out front; picturesque to the eye, but what about in deep? Thank you Celeste Ng for the amazing g story, I just really want to follow up with Izzy, Mia, Pearl, and B.B. and the rest of the cast of characters!

Omg could this book drag on any longer I’m sorry I wasted a credit

Profile Avatar Latoya L. May 2019

Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house. Just when you thought your s*** don't stink, reality sets in. Mrs. Richardson was so high and mighty, to think her children could do no wrong, but oh. She went prying into Mia's life only to see her own life fall apart. The title is spot on, there were little gems of fire everywhere during this story. Shows you a glimpse in the rich, entitled life. Read it in a day and a half, couldn't put it down. #book22of2019 #bookworm #whatsnext #highlyrecommended

Narrator was good. An easy book with many references to the Cleveland area. You kind of knew where the book was going but there was suspense and the end tied it all together.

Profile Avatar Pia T. May 2019

Loved the book. I want to know what happens next!

Profile Avatar Dr Barbara B Mar 2018

One of the few books, I have listened to in one day. Narrator did a beautiful job, giving each character a believable, distinctive voice. The story was good,

Profile Avatar Maria E Dec 2017

I enjoyed this book but felt it dragged in parts.

Profile Avatar Susan G Dec 2017

I enjoyed the book. It kept my attention. I felt the last few chapters were as if the author got tired of writing and rushed through to an usatsfing ending. I hope there is a sequel. A lot of time introducing the characters.

Profile Avatar Teresa M Nov 2017

Great book, throughly enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting the ending.

Profile Avatar Jael R Nov 2017

Loved it. Amazing book. Such an easy listen. Read it as a book and listened to it.

Profile Avatar Rona W. Sep 2021

Intelligent. Intriguing. Innovative.

Profile Avatar Cynthia Rogers Aug 2020

Two families showing the best and worst of times. One family showing compassion creativity and understanding. The other is showing stability class’ and structure. A page turner that said in each incident we are all 100 percent human. And author Celeste Ng who encourages you to remain with situation.

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

Great read!

Profile Avatar Tara M. Mar 2020

One of the best books I have (read) heard in a very long time. I am a bit wary of watching the series on Hulu since I loved the book so much!!

Profile Avatar Betsy R. Mar 2020

my favorite character was the girl who burnt the house down

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2020

An interesting story. A little too much high school drama for me to give a 5 star, but an interesting twist at the end. I think it will be a cross-generational favorite.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Mar 2020

So easy to use and great narration! Little Fires Everywhere is a great listen!

Profile Avatar Sara P. Mar 2020

Loved the characters. I was drawn into the story fairly quickly.

Profile Avatar Jenna F. Feb 2020

Very well written and well told. Covers so many different controversial topics.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2019

I really enjoyed this book... left me waiting for outcomes several times and I found several characters very endearing. It was and easy read with wonderful plot twists ... I highly recommend it.

Profile Avatar Colleen Z. Sep 2019

Very different than what I normally read. I really enjoyed it

Profile Avatar Maggie M. Jun 2019

I enjoyed the story and the plot really thickened toward the end. The reason I took a few stars off was that the descriptions were just too long. While I did like the fact that the author wanted to paint the picture for us, there were too many details and I would often find my mind and attention wander off because of it. If you enjoy drama, you will likely enjoy the book if you can make it to the second half where the story takes off. I liked getting to know all of the characters and the author made each character intertwine in an interesting way. The two main characters are polar opposites, which also made it interesting. There is a good lesson to be learned, but you'll have to wait til the last chapter to get to it.

Best book I’ve read this year!!!!!

Profile Avatar Lisa S. Apr 2019

Easy listening. Very easy to connect with characters. I enjoyed it.

Profile Avatar Nancy K. Nov 2018

This was a good read. I enjoyed the various characters and their plights.

Profile Avatar Teresa W Jan 2018

it got good reviews but definitely one of the worst books yet

Profile Avatar Sonja M Dec 2017

Many interesting themes and characters, and great narration. I found the way it wrapped up extremely unsatisfying.

Profile Avatar LaToya L. Sep 2024

Great book with realistic characters!

Profile Avatar Emily B. Sep 2024

Slow start to this one. It seemed like a high school drama. Midstory, more depth came about and held my interest. I did find myself engaged and pleased with how it turned out.

Profile Avatar Lauren D. Aug 2024

She’s a great writer, but the story always fails a little forced. Highly entertaining and easy, but not something that sticks. I only judge harshly bc she is such an incredible talent

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2024

The book is a little too slow paced with redundancies throughout the storyline.

Profile Avatar Leigh E. Jun 2024

One of the best books I’ve ever read

Profile Avatar Mary B. Feb 2024

It was good - but slow in parts. Some parts are a little hard to believe. Overall, I think it explores motherhood and class through different lenses simultaneously. Lots of difficult questions are raised. There are lots of opportunities for self-reflection.

Profile Avatar Leslie J. Jan 2024

Beautiful and very engaging. I loved it.

Profile Avatar Brandi G. Dec 2023

Loved every minute.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Oct 2023

Quite entertaining. Great light read

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2023

Too confusing

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2023

Great story with interesting characters. It’s unfortunate the incorrect narrative that “everyone that (plot spoiler) carries a burden the rest of their life” was used, otherwise great listen.

Profile Avatar Omer H. Jan 2023

Amazing , couldn’t stop

Profile Avatar Anonymous Nov 2022

Not sure why this book is so popular…. It was pretty draggy. Don’t waste a credit. Just watch the tv show.

Profile Avatar Kari F. Oct 2022

This book, I'm sorry to say, was a waste of a credit. Unnecessarily drawn out and extremely anticlimactic. Why they chose this book to turn into a TV series is beyond me.

Profile Avatar Ronda M. Oct 2022

great storytelling. pulled me in. excellent narration

Profile Avatar Lisa H. Apr 2022

I was a little bored with the book.

Profile Avatar Silaws Mar 2022

Great! Story lines fit together nicely

Profile Avatar Rosalind G. Feb 2022

Really enjoyed this story and the characters.

Profile Avatar BMC320 Feb 2022

Great read

Profile Avatar Cathy C. Jan 2022

The narrator did a good job. The story was not captivating. Could easily have stopped listening at any time. Did not have an interesting plot. Would k no or rxonmend this to a friend.

Profile Avatar Marlene S. Dec 2021

The metaphors and similes added vivid visuals that enriched the listening pleasure

Profile Avatar Marian C. Nov 2021

Great book lots of twists and turns

Profile Avatar Philip H. Oct 2021

Great story. Starts slowly during character development, but the last half of the book brings into focus the many disparities we see in American life; the importance of love, acceptance, patience, and motherhood; how blind or ignorant we can be of others' outlooks on life; and making the best of your situation, no matter how dire it seems.

Profile Avatar Linda M. Sep 2021

How this novel was nominated to be Best Book of the Year, I have no idea. The first part reads like a book for teenagers, and then it begins to almost identically repeat the "adoption" plot found in the novel "Lucky Boy" - and I do mean it is an almost identical plot line. The narrator was excellent.

Profile Avatar Abbye D. Aug 2021

A beautifully written novel filled with unique perspective on controversial topics and two very different families who ended up transforming each other in one way or another.

Profile Avatar Christin T. May 2021

Narrator was good. Easy to listen to and keep up with. Makes you think about your own life and haves vs have nots.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2021

This book made my 12-hour road trip seem to go by quickly. It was well narrated, which can make or break the audio version of a book. Would definitely take time to listen again, as I’m sure I missed some things trying to focus on the road - but the story is beautifully written - glad I purchased it.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2020

I enjoyed getting into this book, and was mesmerized for the first half, but the emphasis on babies and parallels in other lives was overdone for me. I felt dissatisfied at the end, not raving, unfortunately. It's well written and well read, but the story development lacked something

Profile Avatar Valérie L. Dec 2020

I couldn't enter the story, was gripped neither by the story or the narrator.

Profile Avatar Debbie J. Oct 2020

It took me a bit to get started, but was so glad I held on. Really enjoyed the story.

Profile Avatar Frances T. Sep 2020

loved the story and writing

Profile Avatar Robin B. Sep 2020

Loved this

Profile Avatar Anonymous Sep 2020

I really enjoyed this book, im sad that it's over. I wanted to be a part of their world.

Profile Avatar Penni Q Sep 2020

Great read

Profile Avatar Merryl Aug 2020

I really enjoyed this book. I believe that audiobooks depend so much on their narrators, and this one was really great. Little fires everywhere was very entertaining and prophetic. Perfect communities may exist in theory but never in reality. Celeste Ng delved into issues about infertility, adoption as well as surrogacy and abortion exploring all sides, leaving the listener a lot to think about. A great read!

Profile Avatar Maureen R. Aug 2020

I enjoyed the artist’s perspective and twists and turns of the book.

Profile Avatar Amy B. Jun 2020

Love the book. Didn’t like the tv series.

Profile Avatar Belinda M. Jun 2020

Good book but wasn’t thrilled with how it ended.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jun 2020

Very interesting

Profile Avatar Hannah G. Jun 2020

Excellent read. Very interesting story development.

Profile Avatar Brandy M. Jun 2020

Had too many back stories that could have been explained in a few sentences, maybe a paragraph

Profile Avatar Anonymous May 2020

I loved everything about this book. Ng was able to bring in stories of so many characters and slowly show us where they came from and what molded them to become who they were. A must read! 5 stars for the author and narrator!

Profile Avatar Susan J. May 2020

enjoyed the book, but felt plot twists were predictable.

Profile Avatar Amanda K. May 2020

Awesome but I wanted more for the ending.

Profile Avatar Vivian V. May 2020

This book dragged for a weak finale.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

Well written story that reminds us that everyone is not always who they seem to be.

Profile Avatar Kathleen F. Apr 2020

Excellent!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2020

I enjoyed the first half, if only for my suspicion that it was building up to some grand reveal, mystery, or anything really. But no, nothing. I got 30 minutes of exposition on intricate specifications of Mia's artistic preferences, but precious little payoff unfortunately.

Profile Avatar GRACE E. Apr 2020

great narrator. slow start to the book and only picked up the last few hours.

Profile Avatar Susette B. Mar 2020

The story was all over the place. At times a bit confusing

Profile Avatar Kaylee D. Mar 2020

I couldn’t stop listening this was an awesome story!

Profile Avatar Sharon G. Mar 2020

Great book

Profile Avatar Nadia M. Mar 2020

It was boring. Every time, when it started to get somewhat exciting, the outcome was simply blah... There were moments where I simply wanted to interrupt and ask “wait, what was it?” Poorly written, in my opinion.

Profile Avatar Marissa S. Dec 2019

Stopped listening halfway through. This is more of a young adult novel.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Jul 2019

Predictable. I disagree with previous reviewers that the issues are equally delivered. I think you can clearly see what the author’s opinion is. The racist issues did not need to be issue but the author chose these issues. Story could have been told without these bias.

Profile Avatar Emily A. Jan 2019

Not at all special or memorable

Profile Avatar Anonymous Dec 2018

This book was a letdown. The storyline was all over the place and the ending was horrible! I wish I would have saved my credit.

Profile Avatar Carla S. Dec 2018

Thought the tone of the reader was overly judgemental in terms of disparity of privilege. Seemed to be intentional and became obtrusive to the story.

Profile Avatar Wendy Y. Dec 2018

The writer has a poetic gift and can write appealing words. This story, however felt very unfocused. I had to keep asking myself, “What is the intention of this book?” It was a challenge to engage with the many characters, as they felt two dimensional. It was hard to make it through.

Profile Avatar Susan R. Nov 2018

This book had so much potential, the plot was good but the execution was just too boring and drawn out, especially the first 8 chapters were difficult to get through due to lack of interesting characters and trivial information. Improved after the first 8 chapters, but due to "too little too late" could only give 2 stars.

Profile Avatar Emily T. Sep 2018

It really wasn’t all that. I don’t see what all the hype was about.

Profile Avatar Jacklyn V. Aug 2018

Interesting story of divergent personalities & family dynamics!

Profile Avatar Joseph G. Aug 2018

good book and good narration. The content just wasn't for me

Profile Avatar Nelly N. Jun 2018

Narrator was good. Story was entertaining. From the reviews, I thought it was going to be better than it was. And lots of reviews about a surprise ending. I thought it was a normal ending.

Profile Avatar Melissa W. May 2018

Disappointing.

Profile Avatar Anonymous Apr 2018

I loved some parts and didn’t like others. A lot of time was spent saying negative things about Shaker and it made me feel defensive even though that is not the community where I live in the Cleveland area. The narration was excellent.

Profile Avatar Jennifer B Apr 2018

Great book.

Profile Avatar April G Mar 2018

I enjoyed the story and characters. However the narration was really bad. The author read in a flat monotone making it difficult to distinguish which character was speaking. I’m a fan of McMillan’s books, but I will purchase hard copies of her work going forward for a better experience.

Profile Avatar Yvonne D Mar 2018

Great listen! I listen while I commute; perfect for entertainment without unnecessary distraction.

Profile Avatar Julie M Feb 2018

I thought it was very good. From some of the previous reviews I was worried I might not like the ending but I thought it was very believable and satisfactory!!!

Profile Avatar Anonymous Feb 2018

Pulls you in and takes your mind of anything else.

Profile Avatar Mary M Feb 2018

Liked the book but overuse of the term “as if...” was distracting. Narrated has a very pleasant voice.

Profile Avatar Kristen L Jan 2018

It was an enjoyable book. A little slow but as a proud Cleveland native I enjoyed all the local details.

Profile Avatar Jacqueline H Jan 2018

Nice story but dragged along on some spots.
