Unabridged Audiobook
This book is wonderful. She writes beautifully and narrates the story perfectly.
Beautiful story, characters and narration. It was a pleasure to listen to this book.
I could not listen to her reading. I’ve never finished the book ;(
I thought the narration was good, but the story is so weird. I could relate to some of it once we got to COVID lock-downs, but mostly this book didn't feel real to me. If you appreciate true fiction, maybe this is a good book. If you know people like these characters, ... There's so much else to read, I probably won't revisit this author.
I HATE giving up on a book, but I couldn't finish this one as much as I tried (5.5 hrs in!) A different narrator MIGHT have made a difference, but not sure about that. The book just didn't seem to have a purpose and I couldn't tell where it was going. Too many good books waiting for me!
Captures a chaotic America during the pandemic, One abiding theme is injustice & discrimination against blacks & especially Native Americans. Erdrich is a great & literary writer who has the ability to inject humor into a story with several serious themes. Another theme which permeates the novel is that of Books & the power of them. Tookie, the narrator, works in a book store & mentions many suggestions of great books to read - so listen with a pencil to jot the titles down!
I could only listen to this book because the author read the book with intention. Tookie is one of the greatest modern day heroine’s ever written. The story is secondary to getting to know this complicated funny bibliophile. The backdrop of current news like Covid BLM and the native struggle prove that Louis Erdrich is a masterful storyteller and relevant voice. She must have written this book so quickly that I truly believe she is the best contemporary writer for these times
This insightful author has created a masterpiece. Readers are in for a great!
Beautifully written and narrated!
