Summary
Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That’s just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they’ll skip the holiday altogether. Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty; they won’t be hosting their annual Christmas Eve bash; they aren’t even going to have a tree. They won’t need one, because come December 25 they’re setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But, as this weary couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences–and isn’t half as easy as they’d imagined.

A classic tale for modern times, Skipping Christmas offers a hilarious look at the chaos and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition.

I could not believe this was a book written by the famous John Grisham. This book was downright stupid in its content. It was painful finishing it.

Cannot believe Grisham wrote this. When the Kranks worried about how dark Enrique’s skin would be, it ruined Grisham for me a bit. Thank goodness that was left out of the movie.

Made both my wife and I laugh. I could just picture this guy with all the things that happened to him.

I liked seeing this book on the screen better than reading it. Although there was nothing different in the movie vs. the book, it seemed to play out better on the big screen.

And that is probably exactly what would happen if you tried to skip Christmas. It was really funny and enjoyable read.

I loved the story. We had some great laughs. It was a little predictable, but all the same, it was worth it for the laughs.

Wonderful book, hilarious and fun to listen to, great book to listen to during a stressful commute. Wish I would have listened to it during the holiday season!

I am a huge John Grisham fan, but I wasn't as thrilled with this one. The whole idea behind the story is thought provoking though.

This was a great book. I had a good laugh. I was thinking it was about Christmas already.

It was fun to listen to something that is totally different for Grisham. This is 'light' entertainment and completely appropriate for the young and the old.

Being a fan of John, I had some high expectations for the book. It was a good story, and I certainly enjoyed the plot. However, I found the majority of the characters very flat. The main character is constructed well, but those surrounding him are never really developed, leaving the story a little “lack-luster”. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book, and found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations Mr. Krank finds himself in. It would be fun to listen to it in October-November – just in time!

I laughed out loud while listening to this book. This will become a Christmas classic. Can hardly wait until the movie edition comes out.

I really enjoyed this book. It was the first John Grisham book that wasn't about the law and I was afraid I wouldn't like it, but it was great. I found myself laughing out loud.

This is a bah-humbug take on the holidays. It helps the reader ease into the holiday spirit without him realizing it.

Witty and fun. Grisham creates a hilarious story of how difficult it is to "skip out on Christmas". The story is filled with lots of humor, as well as some suspense. A winner!

I chuckled all the way through the book. Most everyone can identify with the desire to skip the stress and expense of Christmas, even though Christmas will find us one way or another.

This is a delightful, lighthearted, sometimes sad, sometimes so true, book that expresses what so many of us have thought and not said. I really enjoyed every minute.
