Summary
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Discover Thrawn’s origins within the Chiss Ascendancy in the first book in an epic new Star Wars trilogy from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.

Beyond the edge of the galaxy lies the Unknown Regions: chaotic, uncharted, and near impassable, with hidden secrets and dangers in equal measure. And nestled within its swirling chaos is the Ascendancy, home to the enigmatic Chiss and the Nine Ruling Families that lead them.

The peace of the Ascendancy, a beacon of calm and stability, is shattered after a daring attack on the Chiss capital that leaves no trace of the enemy. Baffled, the Ascendancy dispatches one of its brightest young military officers to root out the unseen assailants. A recruit born of no title, but adopted into the powerful family of the Mitth and given the name Thrawn.

With the might of the Expansionary Fleet at his back, and the aid of his comrade Admiral Ar’alani, answers begin to fall into place. But as Thrawn’s first command probes deeper into the vast stretch of space his people call the Chaos, he realizes that the mission he has been given is not what it seems.

And the threat to the Ascendancy is only just beginning.

Loved finding out more about the Chiss Acendency! The narrator was great and so is the novel! My only complaint is that I did not like either of the ‘Skywalker’s’ voices. After awhile they were a bit grating on the nerves. Everything else though, STELLER!

The story dragged for me. I might be a good start for the series. We’ll see.

One of the best Star Wars books I've listened to. It's more based around the political side of war than the combat side.

Really good story and narrating. I’d love to see a tv series on Thrawn… so long as they don’t ruin it

Pretty boring. It’s nice to know the Thrawn backstory, I just didn’t expect it to be so boring. You can just read the summary. Narrator is solid as usual. A little over the top as usual. Background effects are way over the top and distracting. He always has a couple voices that are just annoying and don’t add anything. Overall. A dull story. Get through it if you have a ton of time.

The book was good though sometimes the production sound effects interfered with the reading.

The story line and narrative were excellent and the narrator was superb, the only criticism is the choice of sound effect over lays and voice modulation in certain parts that made the words difficult to hear properly. Some of the alien sounds and background sounds over powered the words from the narrator. Loved it tho!
