Unabridged Audiobook
A light read with heavy undertones. The author describes well the everyday microaggressions, racism, and lived experiences faced by BIWOC. The story is engaging. I felt empathy for the protagonist and anger about how she was treated. All around a great book and an important glimpse into the life of a young Black woman in the US.
Kept me engagedalthough the narrator mispronunciation of the name Alix throughout the book was a little annoying.
It was such a fun listen , narrator was amazing!!!!
great listen!
The book should be read by any college or high school student who is mature enough to have a reflective moment on themselves as well as the world around them. The narrator's voice is beautiful, enticing, and captivates every character to a "T". I enjoyed the fact that the author embraced the main characters simplistic life and allowed it, to be okay. and to show that simplicity and being content is acceptable
Enjoyed this book, touched on some great topic. Narrator did a great job. I would recommend.
Every woman should read this book! I especially liked the audiobook because The narrator gave each character a voice, especially when dramatic situations escalated. thoroughly enjoyed this novel, because it was an honest and eye opening narrative from two different worlds. It really helped me see how as a White woman, I need to be my authentic self without apology. All Black women want is to be their authentic selves as well without having to explain their lives away and be a stereotype. The ending broke my heart though, because the relationship between two of the characters had to end. Don’t wanna give away anything…wonderful character development
Loved this book cover to cover, the adorable relationship with a little girl and her Nanny, pulls at your heart, reminding everyone how insignificant the mother is and her proclaimed self importance.
This book was amazing. Totally out of the box. Twists in the ending. It saddens me that racism exists. This author brought out a wonderful story filled with love and peace between a child and a nanny while delving into the biased systems of adults.
I really enjoyed the story and the ending made me sad. I don't usually like multiple character narration, but this narrator did a good job.
Wonderful read, I love how the author shows so many different perspectives
Cute and breezy. A different type of coming of age story. The heroine isn't super ambitious- which is refreshing. I liked the story and the narrator was very good.
Thoroughly enjoyed.
Easy listening, good reader! I laughed quite a bit.
I felt the storyline had a very slow buildup. I almost gave up on it about halfway through, but continued to push on. I like what the author was trying to do and the point she was trying to get across, but I felt there was too much fluff just to fill pages.
Painful to finish.
Got through 2 chapters. Not recommended for a couple in their 60s.
I didn’t get it, and it was totally boring. I had used my audiobook credit so I had to finish it, but it seemed to have no base, to me. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, a clearer direction, but it never did for me. The news interview piqued my interest some, but that quickly fizzled.
The narration saved this story. It was fun to listen to and the narrator did a great job. But the story was slow and the characters were boring. I'm glad that I finished it because I liked the ending, but it was tough getting there.
Loved it! Great narrator!
Condescending, all knowing character that criticizes every other character. Tiresome and predictable.
I really enjoyed this audiobook, especially the narrator. Highly recommend!
narrator has a very nasaly voice which over time is unpleasant to listen to. After 2 hours listening, I was bored to tears and couldn't focus on listening anymore, my mind started to wonder so moving on ...
Not bad
