Dr. Benjamin Carson is a former neurosurgeon, an author and the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. When he contributed his 'This I Believe' essay to NPR, Carson was director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. His mother is retired and lives with Carson and his family.
