Ken Lizzio is a professor of anthropology, having taught at Winthrop University and James Madison University. He is the author of Embattled Saints: My Year with the Sufis of Afghanistan, which won the IBPA's 2015 Ben Franklin Silver Award, as well as Forty-Niner and Pirates of the Prairie. He lives in Bayse, Virginia.
