It's been a year since the Michaluk Virus devastated the Southeast, and Ethan Bennett has built a new family, one that, as leader of the group, he feels a heavy responsibility for. Because of this, when a woman shows up at their safe house begging for help for her group in Atlanta, he's determined to tell her no. But fate-and his friends-have other plans.

Desperate to protect his friends, Ethan agrees to help. But he quickly regrets that decision when, on the road to Atlanta, members of the group begin to succumb to the escalating dangers in their path. And things only get worse as, to Ethan's horror, one member of his newfound family will be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice to save them all.
