Summary:

French Professor Aronnax and his servant join the Abraham Lincoln, an American frigate, on a mission to find and destroy a "sea-unicorn of colossal dimensions, armed not with a halberd, but with a real spur, as the armored frigates." The undersea monster is thought to be responsible for the disappearance of over 200 ships. When they encounter the "gigantic cetacean" it disables the Abraham Lincoln and knocks Professor Aronnax, his servant, and the hot-tempered harpooner, Ned Land overboard. The three must cling to the beast or drown; soon they realize that it is really a man-made underwater vehicle.

Sleepy

This book was full of all kinds of serious sounding scientific stuff. When the story turned to the submarine or the actual adventure it was good. However, all the scientific talk almost put me to sleep. I could not make it to the end of this book. The tone of the reader's voice made me sleepy.

The book was too dry. I just couldn't get into it. After 6 CD's I just gave up. Kind of disappointed because I loved the book when I read it 30 years ago.

The story and the characters are Verne's of course, but the life breath of the characters is the reader. This is a classic and I would not presume to rate it. Instead I give the artist reading this classic a 5 star rating

this book was my first introduction to books on tape. wow what a great start. He had a remarkable insight into the future to say the least.The book drags a little some of the time but the writers style and story more than make up for it. If you haven't read verne get this book asap
