Unabridged Audiobook
I’m torn on whether to give this book 2 or 3 stars. It was chosen as the book of the month for my book club, and I read part of it in print form and did it partially through the audiobook. The narrator was good, but the book itself wasn’t very enjoyable for me. It did have its elements, but overall I felt such an important topic/theme could have been explored way better. I won’t give anything away, but it seemed like there were a lot of extra things just sort of thrown in for sustenance that never really had much point (like the whole “gift of light” stuff). It also was extremely sad in parts.
I wish I had read the reviews. characters are shallow and plot is very sad and difficult to make it through the whole first third of the book. I'm not cheery or into hallmark movies, but the characters were not enough to get me through the hopeless nature of the first half and into the second half of this book.
